Should I add sleeves or straps?

Hi all,

I’m getting married in July and will only have a short turn around (about 3 weeks) from meeting the alterations lady and my wedding (I live abroad and can’t get back any earlier)

I bought my dress 18 months ago and at the time, I adored it. Now I’m worried I like awful in it. I feel self conscious about my weight and how I appear in the dress, especially my upper arms.

Would you add straps or sleeves to the dress below?

The dress is the shops not mine so obviously it needs to be taken in around the chest area etc.

I need honest opinions so I don’t look back and hate photos or spend the day worrying everyone thinks I look huge and ridiculous.

Thanks in advance x

You look beautiful!!
I think a halter would be really nice with it, sleeves would be too much imo.
Once you’ve had it altered to fit you properly I can guarantee you’ll feel much better in it!

You look absolutely amazing. It doesn’t need anything at all, but if you’d be more comfortable with something then try it! I feel awful in anything strapless as my shoulders are so wide - I found that a halter strap was the most flattering for me. My dress was made for me and I tried it with and without, and when I was happier with the strap she stitched it on for me, it took no time at all so something like that could be added or removed at short notice :)

You look amazing. No need for sleeves.

You look lovely in it and I don't think you should be adding straps or sleeves. Invest in good supportive undwear and wear it for the fitting. Congrats and good luck Flowers

most unflattering for your chest, can it be made to fit or support? and is it comfortable or will you be doing the bridal hoick every five mins?

NanooCov · 24/04/2018 21:05

Don't add anything. It will look perfect when fitted.

I think you look absolutely great and once you have the right bra on, it will be fine. If you added straps, they would only be 'cosmetic' anyway so wouldn't pull on your shoulders or neck, nor prevent the need for any hoiking up. The dress corset/body structure needs to be well fitted enough to stay in the right place on its own.

To throw another idea into the mix, would you consider a bateau neck short lace jacket? Look up 'Janais by white one' and look for images and you'll see the sort of thing I mean (sorry, epic fail at inserting a link). It's what I had as I was worried about my arms and I received so many compliments on it. Only thing I wish I'd done was take it off for the dancing!

I like the shape of the dress and you look stunning in it but I'd definitely add straps, almost everyone looks better with straps than strapless.

specialsubject · 25/04/2018 10:37

nothing wrong with the op's figure, although i agree about strapless. but that dress makes it look like her boobs are heading for her knees. it doesnt fit!

DragonsAndCakes · 25/04/2018 10:39

Dress still needs to be taken in,
In OP The dress is the shops not mine so obviously it needs to be taken in around the chest area etc.

Thanks all!

Yes it isn’t my dress- mine should hopefully fit much better and my boobs will be held in place. Love some of those toppers you sent thank you for the ideas x

Oh it's gorgeous! The rear view is a good shot as it shows your arms are absolutely fine. Enjoy wearing it Smile
