Golf complex, not posh but nice, private outside area for guests, function room seats 70 and 150 standing, we r only having an evening do. Wouldnt be seats for every one inside, outside area seats about 30.
Light buffet at around 5pm arrival and bbq at about half 8ish.
£500 behind bar for guests drinks.

OR

Hilton hotel, huge posh function room, lovely private courtyard, huge dance floor.
Light canals at 5pm arrival and hog roast at around half 8.
Guests buy own drinks (a fiver a pint)

What would u choose as bride and as guest?
Ty x

I once went to a Hulton wedding. Not very v nice.

userabcname · 23/04/2018 20:08

What time of year? I would probably go for the second option as everyone could comfortably fit inside if it's bad weather.

mimibunz · 23/04/2018 20:09

I would go for the Hilton, as a bride and as a guest. As a bride, you can relax knowing the hotel has tonnes of experience with weddings and as a guest I can go to my room when I want, perhaps have an extra glass of wine.....seems a win win.

Frouby · 23/04/2018 20:11

We chose our wedding venue partly because the bar is reasonable (£2.80 a pint of carling lager).

We went to a wedding recently where is was £14 a round for a pint and a half and 2 kids drinks. We stayed until 9.30pm as we ran out of money.

So I would say the cheaper bar. I would also prefer a buffet and bbq over canapes and a hog roast.

I know I'm going to sound like a wet blanket, but I think I'd choose t keep looking.

I think you do need to have space for everyone to sit down to eat, including is it's raining, and that does mean a seat each, because you can't predict how long people will take once they're chatting.

And pay bar is fine, but I think the prices are too high (how March are soft drinks, for example?)

Popsicle434544 · 23/04/2018 20:28

Wedding is june
Golf club outside area also has marquee so covered seating.

Both venues r walking distance from church we r being married in.

H2b wants Hilton, I think prices for drinks are stupid and wont go down well with guests.

Soft drinks r around £3.

Hilton definitely.

BackforGood · 23/04/2018 21:19

I was going to say the same as elderlyhippo

whatever time of year it is, if you are in the UK then you can't predict the weather, so having a room you can't all fit in (or sit in) would be a no from me.

I would laso expect to pay for my drinks at a wedding, but would be a bit distressed at paying £5 a pint (as a guest).

Your post about the marquees area / covered seating might have redeemed the Golf Club one, although I always think it is a shame to "split the crowd" over the room and the marquee.

As you don't need catering for a sit down meal, then I'd keep looking for a hall that can fit all your guests and charges reasonable prices for all drinks.

youngnomore · 23/04/2018 21:20

I like them both. But Hilton slightly more.

greendale17 · 23/04/2018 21:21

Hilton

user1493413286 · 23/04/2018 21:22

I think you need somewhere everyone can sit down; we went somewhere where there were only enough seats for the daytime guests and ended up eating our evening buffet sitting on the floor as the seats were all taken and never knew where to put bags down etc

TheCraicDealer · 23/04/2018 22:43

If it wasn't for the seating issue I'd go for the golf club. Big hotel chain weddings can feel a bit samey and identikit imho and I'd prefer to spend the money saved on a great band, better/more food or more free booze for guests. But in terms of essentials for guests, a dry chair for each backside is pretty high up the list. The accomodation would be handy at the Hilton should people want to stay, which is a consideration if it's any distance from where most of your guests live.

I think so long as there was a way of keeping people in the marquee warm and dry should the heavens open or the weather just not be great, I'd go for the golf club. Sounds like it could have the potential to be a great do.

FreeMantle · 24/04/2018 07:08

Golf Club for me too. There's enough chairs and people can eat BBQ and hover. Only concern is that you get two parties going on - the inside and the outside lot.

I hate hotel chain events. Always seem a bit cheap and nasty ( despite not being cheap) and corporate.

SoyDora · 24/04/2018 07:12

Golf club. Drinks far too expensive at the Hilton.

Graphista · 24/04/2018 07:13

June THIS year?! If so have you checked they're actually available? Because I'd be VERY surprised if so 2 months away!

That said at a push option A but actually I'd say keep looking.

Doobigetta · 01/05/2018 22:05

I think it's really important that everyone can sit down.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 03/05/2018 18:55

Golf clubs are usually lovely. Hiltons are soulless and extortionate.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 03/05/2018 18:56

Mind you, have you checked the drinks prices at the golf club?
