What do people actually do at weddings?! 😂

We’ve pushed our wedding forwards to June due to a surprise baby and now have less than 5 months to plan the bloody thing. It has occurred to me that I don’t even know what people do at weddings!! We’ve had to compromise on not getting a band as the budget has been scaled back a little bit so now I worry we’re not providing enough ‘entertainment’.

My plan is:
2pm Ceremony
3pm Champagne and bar opens (We’re putting £1,000 or so behind the bar, it’s a village hall so the drinks are dirt cheap)
3.30pm Afternoon tea served - cakes, sandwiches scones etc.
4/4.30pm Speeches
5pm Ipad DJ in the background, time to chat, table tennis, giant jenga, maybe football type games set up outside
6.30/7pm Fish and chips
8pm More cake/desserts
8.30pm Music turned up dancing/chatting/drinking
11.30pm Last orders

Is this enough? Are people going to be bored?! I honestly can’t think what you actually do at weddings! The last wedding I went to was my aunt’s and it was a really formal sit down meal with lots of courses so nothing like the relaxed, cheerful vibe we’re going for!

During speeches, I drink because I find them stupid and boring.

babybobbob · 25/01/2018 15:38

I think that sounds lovely!

Cliveybaby · 25/01/2018 15:44

sit and drink and catch up with old friends/relatives... eat (that's important)... boogie :)

PasDeDeux · 25/01/2018 15:46

That sounds plenty OP; lots to keep people entertained plus they will mingle and chat etc. I got married last year and bought various games and photo props but hardly anything got used so honestly don't worry about it.

RavenLG · 25/01/2018 16:12

That sounds awesome to be honest op. Giant Jenga and Fish and Chips!! Amazing.

People will be chatting, catching up etc during the gaps early on then dancing in the evening and more chatting etc. You'll have a great one!!! Congrats.

bengalcat · 25/01/2018 16:18

Sounds great - esp fish and chips yum

TieGrr · 25/01/2018 16:18

Can you get the word out beforehand that it won't be a formal sit down meal, and that you're going for a relaxed vibe? People will be fine if they know what to expect.

I shall be following this thread with interest. DD has just got engaged and I haven't a bloody clue what to do...not that it's up to me but I have no idea what to suggest in terms of organisation. if it were me I would ditch the speeches though - unnecessary and cringy.

Didntcomeheretofuckspiders · 25/01/2018 17:39

There won’t be loads of gushing speeches or anything, just a quick ‘thanks for coming’ type thing and probably a few words from the parents if they want to say anything.

We put a Quiz about the bride and groom on the tables to get guests chatting - did the results after the speeches - it was very well received. Only had about 8 questions on.

Elmosmum · 25/01/2018 17:47

When are your photos in your schedule or are you not having them?

Beingmethistime · 25/01/2018 17:48

All the best weddings have a cheesy disco. This is just a fact. Make sure your disco music has plenty of cheese and you've nailed it!

Pseudousername · 25/01/2018 17:48

Sounds perfect to me! Congrats and have a fab day!

Didntcomeheretofuckspiders · 25/01/2018 18:06

We’ll do a few outside the church after the ceremony whilst everyone else walks up to the venue and then some outside the venue later on if we want but I don’t want masses of formal shots. My cousin is a wedding photographer and she’s offered to do our photos and tbh I don’t want to massively take the piss by making her spend all day working!

Your plans sounds so fun OP!

And congrats on the surprise baby Smile

The last wedding I went to they got married around 1:30 pm then there was milling around with drinks for an hour or so. Sit down meal and then as I'm not much of a dancer I just caught up with people, had quite a few drinks etc and then left about 10 pm. I honestly can't remember what the evening food was. I think it was a buffet.

I think generally people chat to each other, dance, drink, eat food.

JaneEyre70 · 05/02/2018 11:25

People are happiest at weddings when they are well fed and watered. It really is that simple. Sounds like a lovely day OP.
