How would this go down with you?

My 12 year old was horrified....

Reasoning:

  1. I'm a photographer. I know a lot of photographers. I don't want my guests to not feel like they are working (aka taking photographs).
  2. I don't want my professional photographers to have to fight to get their shot
  3. I want my guests in the moment. There will be plenty of entertainment without facebook.
  4. I don't want details of my wedding shared on social media before the day has even finished
  5. I don't want endless photographs ruined by guests flashes, mobile phones or guests looking at the wrong camera.

We'd love it if you put your phones down for the day and enjoy the party!
Jesus, no Hmm. That sounds like it should be addressed to a group of sulky teenagers who've been press ganged into being there in the first place; extremely patronising.
It also sounds a little like you're about to produce the biggest extravaganza ever, the like of which they'll never have seen before, so they mustn't miss a single second... when really it's just eating, drinking and a bit of a bop like every other wedding Hmm

Fine to ask for no photos to be taken during the actual ceremony

Not fine to ask them not to take photos of themselves, or you, or other guests, or the venue, when they've probably forked out hundreds to be there and juggled kids and travelling and buying new outfits in order to look their best.

I think you should just relax OP. So what if people post photos on FB? I love looking at lots of different people's perspectives of the day and working out how everyone knew each other afterwards. If these are your friends they're not going to post mingling photos of you on social media are they?

YABVU!

I've been at weddings where it was requested not to take photos until the signing of the register (the officiant made an announcement at the beginning) which all guests respected and seemed ok with. I've also been at numerous weddings where it was requested not to upload pictures to social media until the next day to avoid evening guests seeing, I also think this is reasonable. In fact we did this!

Asking guests not to take cameras or phones is ridiculous. What if there was an emergency? It sounds like something at a Hello sponsored wedding! We had an amazing photographer and I loved our professional pictures but one of my favourite pictures of the day was taken by a guest so you are not thinking of lovely moments your guests may capture while your photographer is looking the other way

Ridiculous to say no phones. No one would take any notice anyway.

I got married in the days before social media and smart phones. My guests did take photos and I loved seeing them all and their experience of our special day after. I get where you are coming from but I think it is unrealistic and unreasonable to stop people bringing their phones. Ask people to refrain from posting them yes. I think you should take your own advice OP and live in the moment yourself at your wedding without worrying about the level of engagement of your guests. I hope you have a lovely day xxx

People take photographs at weddings. It's nice. Are you a Kardashian?

I asked the registrar to ask the guests not to share anything on social media until after the evening guests had arrived.

Someone asked how kids managed before mobiles?

Well for a start weddings were much simpler affairs held at the local church, children invited. Photos taken outside the church whilst everyone watched/kids ran some energy off. Straight onto the reception, food drink & disco. Young children would take a toy.

Not in the middle of nowhere with elaborate proceedings, waiting around for food. Children having to be left with childcare etc.

I think what's the point in paying someone to take photos if all your guests are going to! Why would you want your wedding pics to be filled with phones in front of your guests faces taking pictures of you! They should be allowed phones on them but I defo agree with banning photos being taken.
