I don't do dresses but this is the least hideous of the ones I have seen, thoughts?

I have literally not worn a dress since I was 3 so choosing a dress for my wedding has proved difficult!

I don't want a traditional dress so looking for something that I could potentially wear again and I want something funky but not over the top IYSWIM.

The other issue is that I'm a size 16/18 at 5ft 3.5ins and have chunky bum, thighs and legs so I have not got a clue about which style I should be looking at. Help?!

Is this hideously unrealistic for me to pull off or is it totally inappropriate for starters (I prefer the black one).

Or just a nice trouser suit? How tall are you?

Oops. Just read your height in OP.

How about something 50s style? Google Hellbunny, Tiger Milly and Vivienne of Holloway.

Sidewinder I don't mind my arms or DD's out tbh lol

I wear vest style tops not the skinny strap ones (even I know that wouldn't look good with a huge nursing bra!). I'm usually in blacks/blues/reds/purples but have some white, beigy stuff too.

The plan is for me to wear "naice" shoes to the ceremony and have my vans (or Batman converse if budget allows) for the reception (which is the next day, long story!)

You would probably look quote good in a 1950s style. Try looming up Lady Vintage which has stiff at around £50.

Bikerunski beat me to it but I would second a 50 style dress from somewhere like Vivienne of Holloway. The halterneck dresses can be very flattering with the right support. Plus there are loads of fabrics to choose from, including pretty traditional ivory.

Also, I've seen that style worn with converse if you wanted a more casual look. Or you could wear little ballet pumps - I'm guessing from what you have said about your style, you might not fancy big heels.

I am a similar size and love prom style dresses hell bunny as recommended earlier are good but just put vintage dresses into eBay.

My friend who is not girly girly went to a dress shop purely for her mum and ended up loving a full on lace dress!

I would suggest get a good friend book a boozy lunch and hit some dress shops like debenhams to try some on they have free personal shoppers as well. If you still don't want a dress at least you have had a nice lunch!

The red 50s one is stunning - you could do something along those lines?

Exit that's not a bad thing! Hopefully in the future I'll remember the fun we had on the day rather than what we wore :)

Ours is just a registry office with 15 guests, back to my mums for a buffet/drinks with family and then a party piss up with friends and family at the local social club the following night. We is classy Wink

Love the fifties styles

I think you will regret not dressing up a bit - it's your day and getting married is the important bit of course, but you want to feel special. Be brave and buy a lovely dress, wear your converse with it - Lily Allen rocks that look, and you're young, you can get away with anything!

Congratulations!!

I actually like the dress, in black and white.

I'd be heading to the nearest Indian tailor and getting a suit made, it would look fab and still be comfortable.

something like this, but not in brown for a wedding

I think the last one on this page would be fine for a wedding
