London reception venues - any recommendations?

Got engaged in June but haven't moved an inch in terms of planning a wedding. After lots of chat with fiancée, have narrowed it down to a simple format of registry office with the family then a reception venue afterwards with everyone. Has anyone been to any weddings recently which has stood out? Venues/ restaurants/ spaces all welcome...preferably in London please. Thanks x

Whoops! If you like the idea of being on the river, several rowing clubs hold weddings. We got married at London Rowing Club in Putney, and there was another club down the same road which also does weddings. We wanted quite an informal do - registry office followed by pub or something - but it turned out to be less faff to have the ceremony and reception in the same venue.

We had around 75 guests and a smaller budget so it shouldn't be a problem budget wise. Then main room overlooks the Thames and there's a big balcony over the river.

We also really liked the function room at The Star and Garter, just a few doors down.

The mandarin does look amazing, just hope on enquiring it isn't devastatingly expensive (too much to hope for?!). Good that 2 of you can vouch for it though, thanks x

Beige, I have to admit that the mandarin oriental isn't cheap. You can do it more cheaply than we did though by not having champagne at the reception and choosing cheaper food, and inviting fewer guests etc. But we felt that you did get a lot of things you don't directly pay for eg. Stunning venue, amazing service, free wedding planning, a free room after the wedding, a room to actually get married in rather than going to a registry office. Etc etc. But it's not cheap. One place we loved but didn't go for, was the old national liberal club on horse guards parade/one Whitehall. It is amazing - has a real
Wow factor, and you can have the ceremony there too. Wonderful venue. We didn't choose it because we did a tasting there and they put nuts in the dishes deposited being asked not to as I'm allergic. It's not the end of the world but it was a deal breaker for me. Other weddings we have been to in London and loved were syon house (amazing and very good on a budget as you can choose from a list of caterers etc), templeton in roehampton (as someone else said above), eltham palace (very grand but national trust so not outrageously expensive, and you can get married there). For us the key was somewhere easy to get to, where we could feed and water people to their hearts content, have a dance and easy to get home from. I wish you luck with your search!

The Queen's House is the one at the bottom of the Park with the lovely covered walkway. The Ranger's House is at the top (also lovely but have no idea if they do weddings there).

I've seen Facebook pics of a wedding at Syon House and it looked fab.

Another thought for something a bit quirky is the Orangerie at the Horniman Museum.

Ranger's House does do weddings. There are a few other English Heritage places in London too.

The Trafalgar is lovely, and I've also been to a really nice wedding at Kew Gardens.

The Horniman Museum in Forest Hill is also beautiful for gardens and the conservatory.

Kew gardens is amazing but v. v expensive and you have to work around the opening times of the gardens so it can be tricky timing-wise.
