baptism rather than wedding, but I figured there would be expertise here, cake?

we are active members of our church which has around 100 regular faces on a Sunday morning. We'd like to provide cake to go with coffee after the service the day of our baby's baptism and have a small family group go on for lunch so we're not picking which friends we can afford to invite on. Anyone able to recommend a not-over-the-top-but--special something?

any good bakers in your family? I would do a tray bake and ice it in an appropriate colour and have a small decorative cake for display
/later use. this allows better portion control easy square slices and means you can do a few flavours if you want. I make cakes as a hobby and often do this for large parties/ groups as it can cut costs.
I have even iced empty boxes as a wedding cake and used tray bakes for a couple who could not afford a cake as I got to keep the "cake" for display purposes

We've had 6 kids and for their baptism parties held in the church hall right after the event (for the congregation) we didn't even do a special cake, but served things like banoffee pie, cheesecake, cupcakes and traybakes etc. (home made or shop bought, mainly by friends and family, who offered help) - no one went home disappointed!

the actual baptism cakes were eaten later in the afternoon at my PILs house - where only the family and closer friends were invited.

I made 3 of those - and hired different shaped cake tins from a cake shop.

Tesco choc traybakes cake is really nice, it's £5.00 and you can make 20 good sized portions.
