Wedding venues - Cardiff or the Vale of Glamorgan...

My dp proposed today! I am beside myself I'm so happy!

We don't really want a long engagement as we've been together for quite a while already and feel it would be pointless.

I just wondered if any of you have married in Cardiff or the Vale and could talk to me about the venue you chose?

Have found dream dress. Obviously it does not fall anywhere near our budget.

We are getting married in Pencoed House next August. Also looked at Canada Lodge which was lovely but they didn't have any dates available that suited us (I'm a teacher). Miskin Manor is also lovely and only just outside Cardiff.

I went to the (terrifying) wedding fair in Cardiff City Hall today. Tried on my first dress sneakily whilst the show was going on.

De Courcey's Manor and Pencoed House got glowing reviews from the photographers etc.

Those are my favourite two.

Next week we visit!

I was at City Hall yesterday too! Not been to De Courceys but heard lovely things. We are getting married on a Monday at Pencoed house as they didn't have any Friday, Saturday or Sunday dates in the school holidays and we loved it so much we were prepared to compromise. They offer a package for weekday weddings which is a lot cheaper. Happy venue hunting!

We got married at the Celtic Manor 12 years ago, primarily because I was born there when it was the Lydia Baynon maternity home. I also had my first silver service job there at 15 years old, so imagine my surprise when our wedding planner handed us over to the event manager on the day and it was my supervisor from all those years earlier!!!

It wasn't very expensive, even for 12 years ago, as the total hotel bill for 80 day guests and 150 evening came to less than £5,000!!!!! I looked at the costs again recently, just curious, and nearly had a coronary!

I recently got married in Clearwell. castle which is an hour away from Cardiff. It's gorgeous and the people who work there cannot do enough. They do £5k deals where all the rooms in the castle, the wedding and the following morning is all included. Look them up, they were brilliant with us

The wedding has to fall in with a school holiday due to my dp's job.

Visited the Bear Hotel in Cowbridge yesterday. It was nice. They have August dates next year. We were pretty happy with it.

Went to Pencoed House today. We knew they didn't have any August dates but went along to have a look not least to see how much we really liked the venue yesterday.

We didn't like the venue yesterday it turns out. Both of us were absolutely blown away by Pencoed House. We've got a date on hold for May half term next year. My dp has already raised issues with the fact our honeymoon would be more of a mini moon and that that time of year is v busy for him at work (whereas anytime can be for me) and main concern is he's worried that "his guests" won't come unless he makes it as easy as humanly possible for them. And even then they might not.

Any advice for me ladies?

We are having a Monday wedding there and I umm and ahhhd about it being a Monday and the fact that that may put people off coming. But decided to just go with my heart in the end as my Mum pointed out that we are doing it for us and not for anyone else. As soon as we booked everyone was really positive and couldn't wait to book the time off work to come and we've since sent out save the dates and no-one seems bothered by the fact it's a Monday. We are also just having an 11 night honeymoon and coming back the night before school starts back which, in a perfect world, I wouldn't have. But I guess you can't have everything and its a case of deciding what your priorities are. For us it was important to get married next year in Pencoed House so we arranged that the best we could. I think you should decide what matters most to you both and just go with it! Good luck.

I got married in the New House - in the marquee, I obviously liked it, but love Canada lodge too DH's friends are getting married there next year and I'm quite jealous ...

It looks like city hall is all we can do. My parents have voiced serious issues that have offended me deeply. I wouldn't take their money now even if they offered it. My dp's parents are sadly deceased.

I'm sure it will still be a lovely day, just different to what we initially had in mind.
