Can I get married in Green?

I have seen a lovely dress in Green. Very pale, sea green. Can I get married in it?! It's meant to be bad luck. Doesn't bother me, but my SIL has already said "ooooh, not green".

Your wedding, your choice. You can get married in what ever you want. You could get married in shorts and a t-shirt if you wanted to. You just need to decide if looking back at photos you will be happy with your decision in years to come or if you will always think....I wish I would have....

FalseStartered · 30/07/2012 16:52

you can wear whatever you like!

pale green looks lovely on red-haired people

TCforTopCat · 30/07/2012 16:53

Hi, I got married in emerald green. Happily married for eight years, no bad luck yet!!

nickelbarapasaurus · 30/07/2012 16:53

of course you can!

I did (check out my profile)

I made my dress because I couldn't find a dress in green in the shops

good luck :)

nickelbarapasaurus · 30/07/2012 16:54

(i had 4 different shades of green - emerald green, pale green, sea green and sage green)

Youremindmeofthebabe · 30/07/2012 17:17

Ah- Nickel, that's lovely! Really unusual.

Glad to hear that the consensus is that it's ok! I think in the photos it will almost look white, it's so light. But actual white or cream look horrific on me- I have dark hair and eyes but am very pale of complexion, and even with the somewhat inevitable fake tan white will look horrendous. I would quite like a really bright blue.

What flowers did you have, people who married in green?

I would have whatever colour you like. It's your wedding day! :)

TCforTopCat · 30/07/2012 17:50

I just had white roses tied with an emerald green bow

EdithWeston · 30/07/2012 17:54

Like "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue", it's "married in green, ashamed to be seen".

Up to you to decide if either tradition matters for you. Just don't be surprised that others will have heard of them too and may think your choice odd. Then again, when flouting conventions, that's what you'd want, isn't it?

kickingKcurlyC · 30/07/2012 17:59

My dress was green too. I had white roses.
:)

nickelbarapasaurus · 31/07/2012 12:03

i didn't have a bouquet.

the flowers in the church were all sorts of colours, but the men had cream buttonholes

nickelbarapasaurus · 31/07/2012 12:03

(thank you for the compliment :) )

tb · 05/08/2012 17:25

I had a green dress - very pale eau-de-nil/mint green. I had pale coffee and coppery coloured roses in my bouquet.

HecateHarshPants · 05/08/2012 17:28

You can get married in any colour you want to. I got married in a pale blue chinese style silk outfit.

The colour of the dress you wear has no power to influence anything. It's just a silly superstition.

And the words were only chosen because they rhymed with the bloody colours Grin green - seen. blue - true. red- dead.

Honestly, your sil someone would have to have a brain the size of a pea to give it any thought. Grin

BeattieBow · 05/08/2012 17:35

the other green superstition is "wear green, wear black", but that goes for all the time not just wedding days.

I'm sure its a load of bunkum though!

Yep. I got married in teal green. I looked totes amaze and I've worn the dress for a formal event since as well. Smile

perplexedpirate · 05/08/2012 17:51

Oh, and I had a bouquet, headdress and buttonholes made of peacock feathers instead of flowers.

RandomMess · 05/08/2012 17:53

I wore pale green as well and had cream/ivory flowers, it's the colour that suits me best.

Thistledew · 05/08/2012 18:00

Green is supposed to be lucky if you are Irish. I am contemplating having a green wedding dress and am relying on some very historic Irish blood to neutralise any bad luck. not that I intend to give any credence to such superstition anyway

White also does not suit me, and it actually makes me feel quite ill to contemplate spending £££ on a dress I will only wear once.

I thought it was something about naughty fairies playing tricks on you? Do you believe in fairies?

mothermirth · 06/08/2012 08:04

I did Smile. Loved it. Go for it OP.
