Hoping to get married next year and have a few gazebos and a hog roast in my mums garden so could really do with nice weather. I want a laid back outdoorsy wedding, kids, bunting etc. The weather could really ruin the day, so when would you choose??
Oh i'm in se London.

For this very reason, I chose to get married in August. It rained. The weather is too unreliable here!

EdithWeston · 25/04/2012 06:59

Well, it can be wet at anytime of year.

But to be reliably warm, I'd say between June and September.

BikeRunSki · 25/04/2012 07:04

Early May and early September always seems ok. Pre DC we always went on outdoors holidays in the UK at these times and were always pleasantly surprised by the weather.

BellaOfTheBalls · 25/04/2012 07:07

Officially, May and October are the driest months of the year in the UK.

We get married next month in a very relaxed, kid friendly, outdoorsy wedding for that exact reason I've done a naked sun dance every day

newbielisa · 25/04/2012 07:07

Definitely May has seemed to be the best month for the last 5 years or so. We got married mid May a few years ago, gorgeous weather and I've noticed it's always nice around our anniversary. Good luck

LoopyLoopsTootTootToots · 25/04/2012 07:07

Probably October.

We got married in August. It tipped it down. My best friend got married in October of the same year, same venue and it was beautiful, everything happened outside.

Really if you want to be outside, you might want to consider going abroad.

stargirl1701 · 25/04/2012 07:08

May or Sept. In London, maybe. France would be more reliable.

feedthegoat · 25/04/2012 07:09

We holiday in uk and now always go springbank week. We haven't had anything other than glorious sunshine and warm (yet!). Whereas summer holidays can be hit and miss in august. I'd go for late May or June.

Pascha · 25/04/2012 07:10

We did it in early September. It was forecast 18 degrees and we got 26 degrees on the day! That was in Kent.

GiantPuffball · 25/04/2012 07:18

The end of April. Particularly round the 21st. Has been dry for the last 8/10 years.

Ephiny · 25/04/2012 10:43

Honestly I think whatever date you choose, you should have a back-up plan in case of rain!

You can look up average conditions for each month (both average rainfall and average number of 'rainy days') to get an idea of what's likely, but there are no guarantees...

sue52 · 25/04/2012 13:21

I think from May to mid September would be hopeful though gardens look their best in early summer. Back up plans are a must.

hermionestranger · 25/04/2012 13:22

Early June tends to be quite nice. We it married in August. It rained and blew a gale.

We too had an outdoorsy type wedding with a hog roast and a rock and roll band.

ViviPru · 30/04/2012 09:47

I have been subconsciously following weather patterns for a few years now with the idea in mind of an outdoors wedding. July and August are always a massive let-down weatherise. While early September and May tend to be slightly cooler, they are generally bright and dry.

As others have said, there are never any guarantees but if you go for high summer, then your expectations will be much greater thus bigger chance for disappointment.

I concur with BellaOfTheBalls and newbielisa All things considered, May seems to be a good bet for the above reasons. What makes a massive difference are things like all the leaves being on the trees and flowers all in bloom.

For my outdoors May wedding, I'm going to plan for rain, (decent marquees, pathway flooring umbrellas on hand) then any patches of dryness will be a bonus.

EvenBetter · 30/04/2012 12:44

Ours was in august, it was the only day that week that didn't rain! :o

BackforGood · 30/04/2012 12:51

Purely from own memories, I too would go with May or September, but I would also assume there's a high possibility of rain and have a plan for that. The UK is just too unreliable.

melodyangel · 30/04/2012 13:13

We had a completely outdoors wedding last year at the begining of June it was a lovely hot, sunny day, the next day it tipped down all day.

Good luck and plan for rain!

Meglet · 30/04/2012 13:14

um, never.

Unless you have a cast iron, warm and dry back up plan.
