Bridesmaid dress for summer wedding - unreasonable?

Elish · 05/04/2012 12:59

I'm getting married in the middle of summer in Greece this year & can't wait, but I've hit a problem while getting the dresses sorted out.

My ideal dress for my bridesmaids is quite a heavy gown, such as this one: www.alibaba.com/product-gs/377890174/Peacock_Blue_Strapless_Taffeta_New_Tulle/showimage.html

Whilst the bridesmaids are concerned about it being too heavy for the summer in Greece, I am ademant that they will wear it due to it being exactly what I would like...

The one problem is with my 13 year old daughter who I have asked to wear control pants / body shaper to look her best in that gown. She's reluctant to wear one - I doubt it would add much heat for her to wear a body shaper?

They have already all been told they will be wearing long gloves in the similar colour - I just think it will complete the lovely dresses.

What does everyone reckon? Am I being horrible insisting my daughter especially looks her best?

Elish - please don't get married in Greece, please just go there and run the damn country. They wouldn't have gotton into such a mess if you were there to sort out the finance minister and the tax collectors.

Your talents are wasted on organising some poxy do that will be insignificant in the lives of everyone bar yourself within a few weeks of the event. Go and run Greece, or the Congo if you are up for a real challenge (Mali also has a recent vacancy for a benevolent dictator).

HTH.

Elish - you really are being serious, aren't you? I thought this was a wind up, but alas, you do seem determined to completely ignore local climate conditions.

FFS, sell all the damn dresses on eBay, and get your long-sufferings BMs something light and floaty to wear. That way your poor DD won't have to wear control pants, nor the wretched gloves, and she won't HATE YOU forever.

It will be 30C+!!! Everyone will be red faced and sweaty in the photos!!! Think about it!!!

Good wind up.

Bridezilla, much?

I got married in South Africa in 40 degree heat, even though it was 5pm. I wore a taffeta dress and sprayed the bits of my body that were covered in Mitchum deodorant.

My BM chose her own dress. Everyone wore what they wanted and that was appropriate to the climate.

It's about the marriage, not the dresses... isn't it?

Themumsnot · 05/04/2012 15:27

According to the only other thread you have ever posted, your daughter is 10, not 13.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 05/04/2012 15:32

Bodyshapers will add masses of heat..... how cruel to even sugget it to a 13 year old.

Won't you all look rather ridiculous in heavy dresses and gloves in the middle of summer in Greece.....

Eggsits · 05/04/2012 15:39

And how are you going to stop your 13 year old DD growing between now and your wedding?

It is your day, but I think those dresses, whilst lovely, will look OTT in the Greek heat. colour and everything.

Something light and floaty would be perfect, keep those for the do back home.

ABatInBunkFive · 05/04/2012 15:40

Get your DD a dress that fits preferably one that is more appropriate for where you are getting married.

vigglewiggle · 05/04/2012 15:45

I thought this was a wind-up. Not sure now!

PineappleBed · 05/04/2012 15:50

You've told a 13 year old girl to wear control pants!?

Wow...just wow...

Yay for the dress you like being more important than your child's self esteem or comfort.

VikingVagine · 05/04/2012 15:51

Wow it isn't a wind up then?

I live in a country with a similar climate to that of Greece , in summer you won't catch anyone wearing more than a very light cotton burka (oh wait, no, but you catch the drift). You'll just have to keep you fingers crossed for rain on your wedding day, otherwise yeah, you and your BMs will be passing out left right and centre!

Evening gloves will look daft because: a) that's so 90s and, b) it'll be the day.

FashionEaster · 05/04/2012 15:55

make sure you come back and post some photos, I love a good wedding

LydiaWickham · 05/04/2012 16:00

Now look, if you're going to do a wind up, at least make it plausable, you should have picked a tight fitting dress if you were talking about control pants, that dress will flair out just where control pants would help, there is no need for that area to be subject to shapewear. However, you could have said she needed a padded bra - that would have got everyone baying for your blood about the sexualisation about a young girl and had the great advantage of being possibly an issue with that style of dress.

Now, I would suggest you get this thread deleted and come back with the same OP but with a dress like <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=winter+wedding+bridesmaid+dresses&start=46&num=10&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=Iw9&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&biw=1280&bih=661&addh=36&tbm=isch&tbnid=ysHW-CXErnWWiM:&imgrefurl=weddingdress1.net/wedding-dresses/winter-wedding-dresses-2011.html&docid=YMG4mk-XDfWbOM&imgurl=weddingdress1.net/wp-content/uploads/pictures/winter-wedding-dresses-2011-1912.jpg&w=500&h=605&ei=6bJ9T6rQNcSm0AWcuPXLDQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=472&vpy=301&dur=1475&hovh=247&hovw=204&tx=87&ty=250&sig=115898368600355355549&page=3&tbnh=152&tbnw=126&ndsp=28&ved=1t:429,r:23,s:46,i:115" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this

5/10 for effort. I don't mind a troll, but I do mind a sloppy one.
