What exactly is a matron of honour or a maid of honour? And is there a difference between the 2 or are they the same thing with 2 different names?

OP posts:

she is the chief bridesmaid.

Maid of honour if she is unmarried
Matron of honour if she is married

As Furball says! It's sort of like a female best man for the bride. Some people don't have them.

Oh I never knew that was the reason for the 2 slightly different names! I'm having a Best Woman anyway :o

I had a best woman too.

I'd say Matron of Honour if married; chief bridesmaid if not.

A maid of honour is a tart.
