Hello all!

I am trying to help a fellow MN mate.
Looking for ideas on how to jazz up her home for her wedding reception, nice, but cheap.
Theme is ivory and gold.

I have NO imagination what so ever, so looking for inspiration, please!

All ideas greatly appreciated! xx

(sorry for posting duplicate threads re this!)

Make bunting
fairy lights/lanterns or even just tealights in hanging jars
pots/baskets of flowers - think about when it is and see what's in season for then - sweet peas? lobelia? the seeds will need sowing.

When is the wedding? What time of day?

Stock up on Ikea votives - we have a stash of little glass jars and they always have loads of different coloured candles. Tealights/small candles on mirrors make really nice centrepieces

If it's a spring/summer wedding I'm a big fan of the ornamental birdcages you can get for table centrepieces/just dotting around the place. You can find them fairly cheaply online, but I was thinking about this the other day and I don't see why you couldn't buy actual birdcages (I think you can find them as cheap, if not cheaper than party specific ones) either in the right colour or spray it and then twist flowers/fairy lights around that.

Again with Ikea (sorry) - buy bundles of cheap wooden photo frames, spray them to go with your colour scheme and then fill them with photos of the bride and groom (or depending on the size of the wedding the guests as well) and have them either grouped together as a feature or just dotted all around the house. Our theme was black and pink so printed pictures in black and white which looked really effective.

I found the following advice on the net:

? Avoid ?wedding-type? gimmicks and go for what is functional, practical and good value.
? Keep the numbers down.
? Go with the flow and don't get hung up on details.
? Nobody notices things that are not there.
? Keep it stress free

I love these home weddings:

if the theme includes gold, get a can of gold spray paint, spray stems of ivy gold and also pears look fab sprayed gold piled up on a big platter with some foliage round the bottom (and costs next to nothing( - do a practice first and wear rubber gloves unless you want gold hands
