Am I mad to consider buying from here

We are trying to be sensible with the budget and I really do not want to spend loads on a dress I am only going to wear for 8 hours!

I have been looking for weeks and I still can't seem to decide on a style. I'm a size 10/12 pear but small at 5'3 - please help??!!

I won't even get started on the wedding date, venue, etc.... 2 more wedding fayres to attend yet and still waiting for family to let us know if they will be available!!

Also moving house hopefully this year and having fertility treatment so I really want to nail this wedding down Grin

Has anyone got any tips they wish they had been given at the start of their planning journey???

Not mad at all! They look very nice dresses indeed and I assume, you'll be able to get a refund if it isn't really what you want. Nothing to lose then really.

Are you sure your not me???

I'm the same size and shape and have green eyes!!!

I got my dress from Phase Eight after one of the wonderful MN's on style and beauty put a link to the sale. It was £75 but they,re new dresses are about £250 or maybe go for something that isn't strictly a wedding dress. What's your usual style?

Not mad at all. I'd get an appointment at a bridal shop or two, to find out what style suits you (I went for totally the opposite of what I had in mind, after trying a few on!), then try and find the dress or something like it for a lot less money. Bridal shops often have very good sales too. If you're the same size as the shop samples, you could save a fortune. A friend of mine got an Alfred Angelo for £100 in Berkertex sale (normal sale price was £750!)

I woudn't on the basis that their website has not been proof read and has shocking english. Look at the "about us" page. I would be worried about losing my money TBH.

Hi thanks for your advice

I'm going to go and try some dresses on and see if I can find a bargain from a local shop maybe?

I want something traditional but different!

A friend has also recommended the Berketex sales so I'm going to get tickets for the next one hopefully.

I dont want a big fairytale style dress, something classy. Not satin as DP has an aversion to it Grin

melodyangel thanks for the Phase Eight suggestion, I love them ALL. Decisions decisions

Let us know how you get on. Pics are always appreciated too. We are after all a noisy bunch Grin

Nosey, I mean nosey.

I got my dress from Phoenix Gowns, via local bridal shop. They are ever so reasonable. Personally I would want to try on first.

aStarWithHerOwnWays · 24/03/2011 18:18

Haha SoupDragon, I thought exactly the same thing.

OP, worth trying on some styles to get an idea of what suits and then maybe contacting a local dressmaker to see what they could do. I was quoted a very reasonable price from mine, although I didn't go with it in the end.

landybridal.com and lightinthebox.com are two similar china dress shops that appear to have fairly good reviews. So long as you order in enough time to get it altered/get a new one if it's really crap then I think its a good idea.
