Is it / was it worth it, and how much do they cost? Am contemplating the whole time / money thing...

I would say it entirely depends on your budget and who you choose for he job.

Have you got a friend who you could trust to do the organising for you for less money? I would certainly be interested in undercutting a professional wedding planner as it is something I absolutely love to do and can do very well. Where in the country are you?

Thanks Honte; it dies sound like a fun job! Not sure that we're going to go for a planner yet, just curious to hear about other people's experiences. We are in London, but it is very early days, and we haven't decided where to have the bash yet.

Do you really need one? We had a big wedding (church service then 200+ guests for the day), four hours from where I live and at Christmas, and the organisation really wasn't that bad. We got engaged in November and by January, I'd done 9/10ths of it. The last two months were busy, but only the last couple of days were really hectic, and that was partly because we chose to bind our own orders of service and make our own table settings etc.

I moved house and started a new job in the six months before we got married and it really wasn't more than I could handle. I know someone who turned down a really good promotion because she didn't think she'd be able to combine it with planning her wedding and I was horrified - it's not that much work, really.

Thanks Attenborough; I work full-time in a senior role which can demand long hours, and have a DC; I wondered if someone would make my life easier; we don't even know where we want to get married let alone the finer details...and thought that a planner might have access to discounts and good ideas.

Ah, by all means use one if you find one you like - just don't feel too daunted if you decide to do it yourself - I know people who've made it such a palaver and really, if you're fairly organised and fairly decisive, it's not a frightening job at all. Congratulations and I hope you have a lovely day.
