as dp mentioned about have 24ct gold so it will never leave a black mark on your finger if you wear it for years to come Hmm but its so expensive!!

i was thinking of 18 but maybe 9 is just as good.

Our rings were free! Got my grandmothers welsh gold braclet and his grandmothers Indian gold bracelet and had them melted down into "our" gold. Our vows are engraved on the inside and we have a block left for when we have children to pass it sown. Luckily we have a jewler in the family! Xx

mine were both 18

was good as I got more for them when I sold them a year after he pissed off. Grin

Both rings are 24ct - both belonged to our respective grandmothers.

Whenit - aww thats so sweet.

my engagement ring is 18ct.

22ct - I would have thought that 24ct would be too soft. If you wear a 22ct ring against an 18ct ring the 18ct one will gradually wear the other away as it's harder.

Traditionally, 22ct was used for wedding rings and 18ct for engagement rings. Seems odd that the softer one was worn every day.

tb - thats interesting to know.

  1. I was told to make sure both rings were the same carat for the same reason as tb mentioned.
saggarmakersbottomknocker · 17/11/2010 19:35

22 - it was my grans.

MumInBeds · 17/11/2010 19:40

9, it has never left a mark. We got it partially because of cost but mainly because it is hard-wearing and I intend to be wearing it a very long time.

DirtyMartini · 17/11/2010 19:41

Whensit, that is awesome Grin

no rings here yet, dp and I are going to get hitched some time next year, which is why I clicked; interesting thread.
