If you've taken a toddler boy to a wedding, did you dress him up smartly?

Going to a wedding next weekend, was just planning on putting him in his normal trousers and top, nothing with writing on it or pictures, just nice and simple.

Did you dress up your toddler boy? I can't imagine the bride and groom caring particularly ... but I just saw an advert which had little girls all dressed up for a wedding in pretty dresses and I wondered what the equivalent would be

He's 2.10 by the way

I probably would but just because it's a nice occasion and they look uber-cute!
Some places like Mothercare and Next do quite cute little sets with trousers, shirt and waistcoat type thing. Still comfy but smart!

SleepWhenImDead · 11/11/2010 21:06

I put DS1 in some smarter trousers (just not jeans) and a nice checked shirt - so showing he's not in his normal clothes. I would definitely not buy anything special, or anything he would be uncomfortable in.

a little bit - first wedding he was about 2.5, was autumn, he wore a white round collar shirt and brown trousers and proper shoes. Second and third wedding this summer (3-3.5) wore white knee length shorts (gift from my mum that the moment she gave them to me were marked as perfect for any formal occasion - how impractical for everyday use?!) and a light grey round necked shirt. And nice leather sandals. He looked scrumptious on all occasions.

So never the full rig with waistcoat, tie etc, no, but a bit of effort. but it depends on the wedding. we had another this summer that was totally informal and he went in navy shorts and a pink monster t-shirt Hmm and didn´t stand out at all Grin

notevenasparkler · 11/11/2010 21:12

Definitely - why is there a difference between boys and girls???

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 11/11/2010 21:13

Just nicer trousers (cord/chinos) and a checked shirt. Every child I have seen at weddings/baptisms have been pretty casual, bar the time I got DS1 a suit with waistcoat and tie for DS2s Baptism Grin

HeadFairy · 11/11/2010 21:13

I hate seeing children in really adult like clothes, suit, tie, waistcoat etc... something too freaky IMO. However I would put ds in smarter trousers (ie not jeans) and a nice teeshirt that I might actually have ironed :o

BellaBearisWideAwake · 11/11/2010 21:13

I've seen those sets in Next and they are not for me (I mean DS!), but just my opinion obviously.

THink I will stick with navy cords and a nice long sleeved T

Yes, at 2.10 they are old enough to be dressed in something other than everyday clothes.

We are going to a wedding next month, DS1&2 will be wearing smart shirts with probably cords or similar.

runnervt · 11/11/2010 21:16

My boys wore linen suits with a shirt this summer and were very cute. I was going to go for smarter trousers and shirts but they were given the suits (both bought off ebay).

ja9 · 11/11/2010 21:16

ds wore a kilt Grin

otherwise i'd have gone for smarter trousers, a shirt and a lovely tank top (monsson? john lewis?)

or if you're really lazy like me Bella just buy new clothes that are already ironed :o

BellaBearisWideAwake · 11/11/2010 21:18

great idea! I'm not sure DS has ever worn anything ironed ... [slattern]

My DS wore a gingham shirt with a bow tie, jeans and crocs at a summer wedding. He looked sooo cute!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 11/11/2010 21:19

Linen trousers and a linen shirt (just buttons st the top - is that Grandad style?)for ds1 at 2.5 for bil's wedding.

He was comfortable, looked smart - not in an everyday way and was admired by all Grin

DinahRod · 11/11/2010 21:19

Before the last minute change of mind by the B&G re children, ds would have worn for a summer wedding navy linen shorts and a light blue shirt and brown sandals.

BellaBearisWideAwake · 11/11/2010 21:20

it's going to be bloody freezing though - deepest darkest devon in november

HeadFairy What age would you think something like this worn with jeans would be appropiate. (Without that silly scarf thing though - just the waistcoat and white tshirt)

BoffinMum · 11/11/2010 21:29

I love dressing my boys up. They are very good natured about it. I would put smart wool trousers, a little white linen grandad shirt and a smart waistcoat on DC4 for something like this, and recycle the outfit at Christmas.

nappyaddict · 11/11/2010 21:30

And what age for a mandarin shirt like this

NotanOtter · 11/11/2010 21:31

boffin yes i might do this or a nice indian kaftan type top thing - my boys look lovely in them
