We can't afford a photographer, and anyway don't want to be standing around posing. We would like some pictures of the day though, obviously.

Has anyone ever done the disposable cameras thing? How do you do it? How about getting everyone to upload their own pictures? Do people actually do that? Or would just putting my camera out with a label saying "please use me" work?

I didn't do the disposable camera thing, but really wish I did.
The usual way of doing that is to put one on each table at the reception with a note on it saying 'please use me', or something similar.

The thing with that is that you would get no photos of the ceremony etc.

Asking people to upload their photos is also great, but not everyone takes a camera and most people tend to take photos of you and their own friends only. You would be unlikely to get photos that included all of the guests.

Most people in your position would ask one family member or guest to be the unofficial photographer. Ask that person to take some nice shots and to include at least one of each guest.

You say you don't want to stand around posing, but actually it's nice to have a few of the happy couple, parents, family members etc. Those could be taken by the person you ask...

Tbh, my FIL is a bit obsessed with taking endless, endless pictures anyway...

EG- Baby sat on floor, FIL takes a picture, then shows everyone the picture on his camera, then goes off to the computer and prints it out and shows you that, then gives you a copy of it, then shows you one a bit like it from a few days ago. Baby still sat in exactly the same position... :D

everyoen was taking pictures and i've seen some really godo ones uploaded on facebook.

you can't always risk it, though.

have you got a camera yourself?
or a friend who is good at photos?

I've got 2 slr cameras (one film and one digital) and i left them in the hands of friends - plus one friend is really good at taking photos so used his own camera to take loads.
you've just got to make sure that someone takes the people you really want to be in there!

I'm having the same dilemma, dp really doesn't want a photographer so we are trying to find someone reasonably confident who could spare a few hrs. One suggestion I have had is is to approach the local tech college who do a degree level photography course, they may have students wanting to go down the weddingg photography route who would love the opportunity to do it and probably just charge a couple of sandwiches and a bit of cake!? If they were just about to complete their degree they would be pretty good. I'm going to give mine a call next week see if I have any joy
