Thunder, lightning, heavy rain ...

... in mid Hampshire, started at about 16:15. The Met Office radar shows quite a big blob (technical term ) of red/white right over us. Time lag between lightning flash and thunder is very small. The street lights, which are sensor-controlled, keep coming on then going off.

I should power down my computer, I suppose.

I like thunderstorms, they're very exciting.

differentID · 25/03/2010 16:40

I hate thunderstorms

VengefulKitty · 25/03/2010 16:42

Oooh, I love a good storm... as long as I am tucked up indoors

IndigoSky · 25/03/2010 16:44

We had it too in SW Hampshire. Suddenly went very dark.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/03/2010 16:54

same here. wasn't sure if it would come off (was sceptical and clearly wrong!)
overhead so being daring by having pc on!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/03/2010 17:13

torro have initiated a convective discussion

was quite impressive here. As soon as I posted dd said 'Mummy the sky is going yellow' then we had absolutely torrential rain, a little bit of hail and some good overhead T&L. So I turned off pc.

Heres hoping for many more thunderstorms this year

orienteerer · 25/03/2010 17:26

Just passing us now, almost dark outside.

BecauseImWorthIt · 25/03/2010 17:28

Heavy rain starting here now in SW London - will wait for T&L - another one here who loves a good storm!

Sadly I have to go out in it though, as have DS2's parents' evening.

cyb · 25/03/2010 17:28

I've got to go to ds's parents evening tonight at 6.20 and its POURING , absolutely TIPPING it down.

I wonder if I might...'forget'

I'm sure he's doing fine at school

orienteerer · 25/03/2010 17:30

Should pass fairly quickly

Ewe · 25/03/2010 17:31

Why do computers have to be turned off?

Heavy rain here in Surrey, going out for birthday dinner later so hoping it passes in about an hour and a half!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/03/2010 18:36

If there is a local hit the surge can take out your computer. This happened a couple of years ago to all our neighbours - a strike hit a couple of back gardens and it took out computers, phones and tellys. Very impressive. Fortunately we were unplugged. Just switching off is no good. Unplugging is needed.

I do have a ups (uninterruptable power supply) installed now, but I wouldn't trust it to handle a close hit.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/03/2010 18:37

nice radar

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/03/2010 09:00

potential is there for this afternoon for some more rumbly storms.
