Sorry to hear that @SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter i hope it's back on soon (the roof and the power!) Have you had to move out? It must be hard to keep warm with no roof.

Thanks @musicalfrog ! I am staying with a friend for the weekend. I really hope power is back by Sunday as they say it's going to be! To be fair it's not the roof itself that's been ripped off, but the tiling, They've just gone flying! It's going to take some sorting out.

musicalfrog · 10/01/2026 06:07

Yes a huge hassle I'm sure, the roofing companies will be busy so hopefully you can get someone in soon.

Glad you're keeping warm!

Several friends and family in Cornwall are still without power, some without water as well. Mainly in small villages or rural areas.

Power kept going off in Falmouth town centre tonight. My parents’ local was BYOC (bring your own candle) tonight.

I’m in Falmouth, it certainly did take a battering. Neighbour had a tree down and the estate I live on, many lost fences and have roof damage. Estate took a hammering as we are probably one of the highest points in Falmouth.

We got away with damage, just had two garden chairs that were weighed down with two patio slabs each fly across the garden, went out to rescue them and could barely stand up. That’s heavy wind to shift what are heavy chairs with that weight on them.

Was strangely quiet here all day, apart from hearing multiple chainsaws going all day.

Just been reported down here that someone has died after a tree fell on their caravan in the Helston area.

CrushingOnRubies · 10/01/2026 15:03

Dps are still without power and it’s looking like Monday before they do. Sad to here about the man in his caravan from Helston.

That's so sad! If been amazed at the seeming lack of fatalities. Poor chap, and his family.

Yup! According to the national grid I have a power cut find out the latest for your postcode thing.

EasternStandard · 10/01/2026 18:50

Oh my goodness I just saw some people are still without power, how are you coping? Sounds horrible

musicalfrog · 10/01/2026 21:26

So sad to hear that one person has lost their life.

I’ve just read about a family in Falmouth whose house was destroyed by a fallen tree and they have no insurance 😮

Bloody idiots. Absolutely no sympathy from me. For the sake of around £200 they have lost everything!

HatStickBoots · 14/01/2026 21:47

Over the last few days I’m only just starting to get a fuller picture of the destruction here. It’s the worst storm to hit Cornwall since I don’t know when. The wind reached 123 mph in Padstow. Trees in cemeteries have fallen and opened up graves. Two huge trees in one of the streets of Falmouth had crashed into one another and just missed pushing over a third in the row which would have taken out a small block of apartments. The trees fell sideways due to the wind direction and didn’t crash through the row of cottages. I couldn’t believe the sight of pavements churned up and these massive root balls. It’s going to take weeks to deal with everything that’s happened. There are some beautiful NT and private gardens here with amazing trees which have come down. The family mentioned were renting that house I thought… The Mum had only just moved the children downstairs minutes before the tree hit their bedroom. They’re in emergency housing but have to be out within a week I think.

musicalfrog · 14/01/2026 23:35

Bloody hell. It's incredible really that there weren't more fatalities. 123 mph!
