Depression caused by constant grey foreboding skies

Hi everyone, am I alone in thinking that our awful weather has a terrible impact on mood and wellbeing? The constant grey and threat of rain is driving me to despair, when we get sun it is blighted by constant cold winds, I’m soo sick my ancestors weren’t thief’s and subsequently carted off to Australia.

Quite agree. I feel so much brighter on the days with beautiful blue skies and warmth.

strawlight · 06/06/2025 20:55

I generally agree, but this year it was glorious for almost two months, until June hit. Even with the last few rainy days we’ve had nice evenings - we could’ve had months and months of relentless crappy weather, like last year, so I’m feeling pleased with Mother Nature for once!

Nannyfannybanny · 06/06/2025 20:58

It depends where you live. I'm in the SE UK fairly near the coast. It's been the driest spring since 1898. My DH is out watering our garden for the second time today. Forecast said 4 days of rain,we had a couple of little showers. I know how much sun we've had because we have solar panels. Talk of a hosepipe ban.

SpottedDonkey · 06/06/2025 20:59

WTF are you talking about? If you’re in the UK, you have just experienced the driest, sunniest and one of the warmest Springs in recorded history. Have you forgotten day after day after day of unbroken sunshine throughout April & May?

Unbroken sunshine! Where?

Scotland

PizzaSophiaLoren · 07/06/2025 02:45

Do you live in Wales or the North West?
Wales is notoriously dismal.
Move?

Oblomov25 · 07/06/2025 04:55

I agree it's been miserable grey and raining, in June!

Unbroken sunshine! Where?

The East Midlands, West Midlands, South East, East Anglia & South West. So most of England. I have experienced this myself as I have travelled around the country in the last few months. And I know from speaking to colleagues that the weather in Scotland has been glorious, too. Farmers have been complaining about the lack of rain.

Dou you actually live in theUK?

Holdonforsummer · 07/06/2025 08:17

I live near London and we have had almost no rain and constant sunshine since March!

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 07/06/2025 08:21

It's a question of mindset. I'm in famously rainy Cumbria and we've had an amazing run of sunny weather. Yes it's cloudy and chilly for June now, and we've had rain and are due torrential rain today, but the plants need it! What exactly do you think the clouds are foreboding (apart from rain, which we need)? Maybe you could try looking at the clouds as dramatic and moody rather than foreboding?

Pabbel · 07/06/2025 08:27

We're I live looking at the constant grey foreboding clouds is depressing, we may have had 2 pleasant days so far this year.
As OP stated, it's very dismal day after day watching the monsoons fall in the wind!

Same in Yorkshire
It’s been a bit too constantly sunny, so I’m glad its now grey and rainy for all the crops, wildlife, plants etc

REally???

We're in the north west and have had weeks and weeks of sunshine. Last couple of weeks it's been rainy, but the grass needs it.

Next week temperatures are going to increase.

Pabbel · 07/06/2025 08:36

Yes really !!
Hope you are right about nice weather coming, it will lift my mood considerably, today again is downpours and temp of 11 "

RaininSummer · 07/06/2025 08:36

It's been grey and damp here this week and it really affects my mood. Vitamin D and sunshine Lumie light needed.

Two?! Where the heck do you live? April was wall to wall sunshine in Yorkshire, I’ve spent more time sunning myself in the garden this year than ever before. May was also gorgeous until half term at the very end. Yes we have rain this week but we flippin needed it!

Pabbel · 07/06/2025 14:44

Strangely Yorkshire!!, but obviously not the sunny dry part🤔

TheSalmonMousse · 07/06/2025 16:21

Yes, last year was awful.

I'm only ok this weekend as we've had such endless sun and dry weather for weeks and the sun is back on monday.

Weird!! It is a massive county though I suppose. I’m West. I looked like I’d been away on holiday by the end of April and topped it up during May. I even… get this.. got brown legs!

liveforsummer · 07/06/2025 16:53

I’m in Scotland and whilst May was indeed dry, often the haar didn’t burn off til after lunchtime and left you with a couple of hours of sun but still with a biting wind if you’re on the east coast like me. Now the heavy showers seem to perfectly time themselves with things like school pick up and the moment you need to leave the house. Yes I’m sick of the grey sky and always having to wear waterproof shoes and carry a coat!

EllasNonny · 07/06/2025 17:08

I'm a gardener and live in North Yorkshire, not an area renowned for glorious weather. Until a week ago we've had a six week stretch with absolutely no rain. I know because I had to water every day.
There's been very little rain since, well below average. If you hate it that much why haven't you created a life in a sunnier climate? I'd hate to live in wall to wall sunshine and all the extremes that brings such as the fires recently in LA.
It was bad enough here with the recent dry spell. I spend my time outside with my dogs (DC are now adults), regardless of the weather. With that in mind I simply make sure I'm appropriately dressed.
