First I've heard of this storm and everywhere closing, is this just an Ireland/Scotland thing or will it be hitting SE?

I find the Met Office website very reliable for weather forecasts.

nocoolnamesleft · 23/01/2025 23:56

As the Met Office website would tell you, all the country is on at least a yellow alert. But it's much, much, worse in the north and west. xcweather is also good for windspeed forecasts.

ExtraDisorganised · 24/01/2025 00:03

The whole country, it has been on the news all week

Sinkintotheswamp · 24/01/2025 02:25

The met office website tells you all this five days ahead.
Just check it every morning and evening. Like brushing your teeth.
in a bad mood as the wind has woken me up

fridaynight1 · 24/01/2025 02:40

It's very strange but here (NW) nothing much is happening, despite the Met office saying wind gusts are currently 52mph.
Our bedroom is up in the loft and usually if it's windy it is very, very noisy. I don't know if it is all going to kick off soon but it's all quiet atm.

LostittoBostik · 24/01/2025 02:42

The wind in London just woke me up (attic conversion bedroom on a hill - very loud in a storm). But the forecast says it will just turn to rain in the next hour

YourLilacDreamer · 24/01/2025 02:45

We are in Scotland and got the severe alert siren on our phones at 6pm last night. I just got woke up just after 2 with the sure going again!

HoraceCope · 24/01/2025 06:59

yellow warning

BitOutOfPractice · 24/01/2025 07:02

Why, just why, would you ask here and not look at a weather forecast?!

JellyFlooding · 24/01/2025 07:04

I'm in the SE and it's knocked out my electricity so yes.

InJadeHedgehog · 24/01/2025 07:06

It’s going to be a ‘normal’ bad storm in most of the country, so take normal precautions.
The danger to life, stay at home serious concern is for Northern Ireland and parts of Scotland.

pelargoniums · 24/01/2025 07:20

I’m in the south east and our wheelie bin wobbled a bit then stayed standing, astonishing scenes.

It's the weather part of mumsnet what were you expecting discussions to be about?

HoraceCope · 24/01/2025 07:32

Maybe about the storm. But not this question surely?

I'm in the SE and was out at 6.50 rescuing neighbours' bins which were flying down the road. We have no street lights and they were like paper bags in the wind.

kiana2015 · 24/01/2025 11:01

@BitOutOfPractice I don't have time to watch the news and I don't really bother looking on the weather websites as I have to read the whole artocal to find what I'm looking for. I barely have time to brush my hair most days
