For about three weeks now.
I've been outside with the watering can every 2/3 days giving things a little drink.

Yes my garden which is heavy clay is drying out quickly!

Yallreadyforthis · 06/04/2020 22:36

I hope this is innuendo

Titsywoo · 06/04/2020 22:36

Yes thank god - I'm so happy to be able to get in the garden. Looks lovely tomorrow although less so the rest of the week - just cloudy, not raining.

twinkletits99 · 06/04/2020 22:37

Can't quite work out what this thread is about...

HeffalumpsCantDance · 06/04/2020 22:37

My tulips are loving the dry weather, they have really opened up. My garden is full of primroses and violets too.
Yes, I’ve been watering, I’ve got some thirsty little shrubs in pots just starting.

Titsywoo · 06/04/2020 22:37

Ha ha @Yallreadyforthis - watering can in the garden? Grin

HeffalumpsCantDance · 06/04/2020 22:40

I took it as a step out of the frenetic, everyone watching everyone and judging frenzy happening everywhere else on the site.
My peonies are coming through earlier than usual, and the bluebells are on the way.

megletthesecond · 06/04/2020 22:42

twinkle I know. I decided I couldn't be bothered to phrase it differently Grin.

It's been dry in the north west too (so I'm guessing also everywhere else), I had to water my pots yesterday.

FiveFootTwoEyesOfBlue · 06/04/2020 23:00

Yes, and looking at the BBC forecast, no rain expected in my area for the next 10 days. Quite unusual for Spring, isn't it? April showers and all that.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/04/2020 16:25

It has been very dry, one extreme to the other. Soil moisture deficits are building.

BlackeyedSusan · 21/04/2020 11:01

soil moisture deficits? technical term or just a fancy way of saying its a bit dry?

ExpletiveDelighted · 21/04/2020 11:10

Yes, central south here, my allotment was like concrete till last Friday when it rained all day much to my relief. But it's drying out again fast. I'd like a day of solid rain once a week.

Notmyrealname855 · 21/04/2020 11:17

Lake District here and... no rain for a month Shock wouldn’t mind but we’re on a farm (and not any mains) and the sheep need water! And the fields are turning brown... very windy which is drying it too

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/04/2020 12:50

It's a technical term Blackeyed Grin

GailForceWarning · 21/04/2020 16:27

OYBBK & Gloria, what are your lovely models suggesting for the late spring/summer in terms of heat and moisture? Is it going to be a scorcher or a bit dreich?

circusintown · 21/04/2020 16:28

Yep. No rain up north Grin

goghsunflowers · 21/04/2020 16:32

Really? It rained here in Cornwall this morning, and over the weekend

CCaK · 21/04/2020 17:03

It has! East Anglia. I'm trying to get some grass seed going. My poor grass is yellow and dry.

We've started having the sprinkler on in the eve.

You know it's dry in England when we're saying it's not rainy enough.

GloriaSmud · 24/04/2020 10:25

GailForceWarning (apologies - only just seen your post) Weather models don't really go that far at the moment but TheWeatherOutlook has some thoughts on summer 2020 here.

For those wanting rain, from this weekend onwards, it looks like things are going to be a bit more 'April-like' with some showers around.
Netweather's thoughts for the next few days.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/04/2020 16:06

The met office are saying that the next three months are more likely to be warmer and slightly more likely to be drier than average.

It's going to rain on Tuesday!
I'm relieved I gave up my allotment last autumn as trekking over there to water it was a faff. It's easier to water veg in my garden.

Very heavy showers in the Peak District this afternoon, I too was getting bored with the watering-can and hose, I'm expecting everything to burst into verdant exuberance in the next week or so!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/04/2020 09:10

Proper rain tomorrow too :)

One of my jobs today is to give the lawn a good haircut - it is going to go a bit mad after such a dry spell. After that, we are in much more seasonal weather - sunshine and showers, some days more cloudy. It won't be awful, but it won't be the glorious weather we have had.

ExpletiveDelighted · 27/04/2020 13:08

DH cut the grass yesterday. I had to soak part of my allotment with a hose to get my potatoes planted. I'm happy for it to rain all day tomorrow, the garden and allotment both need it.
