Are we heading straight into autumn with no Indian summer?

I live in the south east and the leaves have already started changing colour and the light just seems so autumnal.

There was a real chill to the air last night and DH and I both commented on how it seems autumn has come early, which seems to be supported by websites such as Metcheck.

So it that it? Are we heading straight into autumn this year with no September warmth?

The hot weather seems often to be in June and July in recent years.

Maybe it would be a good idea for the school year to shift to match - that would help the present calls for university admissions to be done after results are out and also make exam time easier for those with hayfever.

I thought it was glorious at easter. (just after?) we had a couple of really hot weeks in summer but the reast has been typical english summer, rain, showers, cloud and a few sunny spells.

this time last year we were getting the paddling pool out at mums as it was a lovely end to the summer, though dd did not realy wear her summer uniform in september so it did not last long.

it would make much more sense for the school year to shift. what would make more sense is staggering the school holidays so there is a longer peak season to make things easier to get away.

was winter 2009-10 the one where there were minus 12 and below temps?

I have already noticed I have switchedfrom to trying to cool the flat to trying to keep it warm.

Bloody hell, I was just about to post and a massive thunder crash frightened the life out of me! Bloody weather!

I agree it feels autumnal, all the hot weather was June/July.

We've only had 2 barbecues this entire summer holiday.

We have huge conkers already starting to fall, the trees started turning almost 2 weeks ago, hot water bottles have been out for weeks. The second duvet never really got put away, although not currently used as a duvet and just a raise cushioned thing for an injury Blush there has been muttering about the state of the gutters too which is normally an end of September/beginning October kinda job.

Would love to have access to previous years weather data. One could have fun playing around with that and jumping to conclusions...

We went on holiday down south last week and I was bloody glad I took jeans and sweaters instead of dresses. It was cold and rainy half the time.

I love autumn. The crisp days, snuggling up in nice boots and coats, getting the wood burner going, looking forward to Christmas. Oh and my birthday. Grin

As grey and wet as a shark's armpit here (Leicester) Temperature's a chilly 13.5C. Yuck.

Still raining!
Apart from the changing colour of the leaves, other signs of autumn/winter ~ we've just had a little group (or gang, as I call them!) of sparrows that usually leave off visiting our bird feeders July-end September/October but I've just seen them attempting to get the last bits of food out of a feeder. I suppose I'd better fill the feeders now if they're expecting to be fed!

And Aldi have just sent me an e-mail for their special buys this week. Included in the list: log splitters, stove spray, axes, insulation wrap, duvets ~ all you need for your home to be ready for the coming autumn/winter!

My FB memories thing tells me that we had ground frost on this day in 2010 in Bedfordshire.

Gymbunny1204 · 31/08/2015 13:52

I swapped my summer and winter clothes around this morning. Part of it is some of my children go back to school this week and it feels like autumn. Has rained most of the day..

BikeRunSki · 31/08/2015 13:55

It'll be beautiful and baking hot on Monday next week. It's ds's birthday, always a heatwave!

BabyGanoush · 31/08/2015 14:06

DS has birthday late September and it's often a warm sunny day.... Fingers crossed!

digerd · 31/08/2015 18:41

SE.
The last couple of nights I've been wearing my fleece leggings in bed.
Also thought some time ago that it was like an autumnal sunshine- pale/weak.

I remember one year but not which, when it was so cold on the August bank holiday week-end that we had to put our heating on. It did warm up after that and turned it off.

Shame I don't know how the winter was as didn't write it down in my diary.

We've had 15 degrees out all day.

Why is a summer 15 degrees always warmer than a winter one?

notsomanky · 02/09/2015 09:41

It was like a November morning here today.

Misty and "dreich" as we say back home. A Definite chill in the air.

The sun has broken trough now though.

Sallycinnamum · 02/09/2015 21:34

It's horribly damp here in the SE. I'm drying the used bath towels in the tumble dryer because they're just not drying in the bathroom as they normally would this time of year.

Ill be honest. As im heavily pregnant now i am glad its not too hot

colleysmill · 08/09/2015 07:42

I'm surprised at the sept 2009 memories - I recall being in hospital after ds1 was born in the second week of Sept and it was roasting! I kept being told off by the midwives for opening a window as I was sweltering in the sunshine!

Mind you I think it was only that week .....

GloriaSmud · 22/09/2015 09:59

Looks like after today, Autumn is on hold for a bit and a sort of 'Indian summer' will occur, with fairly nice weather forecast towards the end of the week and over the weekend.

godsavethequeeeen · 22/09/2015 21:36

I'm mid leg wax . I'm not cracking and shaving, no matter how nice it gets.

GloriaSmud · 25/09/2015 13:28

Godsavethequeeeen ~ not cracking here either!
