So like yesterday in Surrey. Sudden heavy rain.

ElPolloDiabolo · 15/08/2014 07:43

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Off camping in Pembrokeshire next week.
It'll be OK by then, right?

SixImpossible · 15/08/2014 07:49

Dh and ds have just left to go camping and hill-walking in N Wales. Dh says that ds is his weather mascot. In all the years they have gone walking together, it has never rained while they were walking - no matter what the forecast predicts.

Will the magic hold?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/08/2014 07:49

Exactly nannynick. One minute it's fine, next minute you are learning to swim again.

Elpollo, I would pack plenty of warm clothing. At the moment, unless it changes it looks very cool and potentially a bit damp.

Oh dearie me, thank you OYBBK. We got flooded out of our tent after one night in May half term, so this is attempt #2

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/08/2014 07:57

Oh no!!! I hope it's better for you this time!

You know those disposable hand warmers that go in pockets? They are great stuffed in bed socks for camping.

It's gorgeous in York here atm. Happily we're heading north today so out of the problem area Grin

helpmesolveaproblem · 15/08/2014 08:01

We always ignore the weather warnings and have so far been okay (touch wood)

what we find is often the clouds look worse than they are. we have had many a lovely walk on an iffy day

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/08/2014 08:41

everyone has their own approach helpme. I'm not going to even get into a discussion about it. Just be glad you werent one of the ones severely injured on Sunday by falling trees.

oh no! i didnt hear about anyone dying..... Im so sorry!

I didnt mean , be reckless and go out in a hurricane, i just meant it doesnt always rain if the clouds are dark

im sorry if i offended anyone

helpmesolveaproblem · 15/08/2014 08:45

you only mentioned rain.... :(

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/08/2014 08:51

dont worry :)

I went out for a walk yesterday in the warnings cos, well rain doesnt really stop walking unless you are out in the hills. I knew a shower was coming, I could see it on the radar. I had utterly forgotten what torrential rain was like to be in. My little umbrella did a valiant job of keeping the top of my head dry. The rest of me was drowned cos the rain was bouncing so hard from the ground it was coming up at me. Found myself ankle deep at one point.
Shoes still drying Grin

There was a horrific squall on the M20 yesterday, we were minutes behind a crash involving at least five vehicles including a motorbike. Thankfully nobody looked injured. In between the downpours it was sunny and hot.

SixImpossible · 15/08/2014 08:56

When we experience appalling weather, and have the good fortune to return, unharmed, to a warm dry home, it can be a wonderful experience. And we need to appreciate that we can experience it in our sanitised, protected lives. Not everyone is fortunate in that way. For many people appalling weather is a genuinely appalling disaster.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/08/2014 09:06

Agreed Six.

Meg :( that's scary.
