NW
mentioned this in yesterdays thread, but really I should have bought it into its own thread. Looks pretty serious to be honest as there could be 100mm+ over densely populated areas. I hope that regional news stations have been highlighting the concern??

Arhhhh I'm taking my Guides camping tomorrow to a festival - suddenly not looking forward to it :(

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 22/06/2012 07:49

oh dear hellsbells :( (hope its not the IOW!!!!!) looks quite wild saturday night, depending on where you are going. If it is in the NW then I'd check that your field isnt under water.

In Cheshire. Better pack the wellies and waterproofs!

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 22/06/2012 08:12

eep.
Do check ahead that it is still safe!

I'm in Lancashire. The rain is horrendous and relentless.

Seriously not looking forward to a 25 mile round trip school run later.

DS is on a beavers sleepover. They're in a barn but still Confused

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 22/06/2012 14:09

Helena, probably worth checking your local radio station website to see if they have road closures due to flooding. ( or perhaps twitter). Take care. I suspect you have set off already though?

How is everyone else doing?

hellsbells99 · 22/06/2012 14:49

Guides festival is cancelled - unpacking tents! Have notified all parents. Will treat myself to a G & T later I think ;)

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 22/06/2012 15:07

I'm unsurprised. But what a pain for you! Better though than trenchfoot.

OP posts:
Helenagrace · 22/06/2012 15:31

I heard about the guide festival cancellation on the news and thought about you hellsbells.

It's brighter here but still raining, although not as heavy as earlier. The environment agency has issued a flood warning for Preston as the rainfall will hit the river at the same time as high tide - not a good combination.

Meglet · 22/06/2012 16:03

eeeeeew, it chucked it down during school pick up. Luckily we were allowed to wait in the classrooms until it died down but within 5 mins it started again.

I drove part of the way and the sound of rain on the roof was deafening.

I hate this weather Sad.

hellsbells99 · 22/06/2012 16:53

Site is apparently very flooded hence cancellation. Next time I will plan indoor holiday ;)

MooncupGoddess · 22/06/2012 17:05

Severe flooding at Prestonpans means the East Coast railway line is down... Which is not great as I am stuck at Edinburgh Waverley waiting for my train back to London.

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 22/06/2012 19:19

Oh that's a bit rubbish mooncup. Is there another route you can take? ( do you need us to look anything up for you?)

OP posts:
Ohyoubadbadkitten · 22/06/2012 19:22

I just had a look at routes. Tricky! There's a sleeper service at 23:40 that goes into Easton but no idea which route it takes.

OP posts:
Ohyoubadbadkitten · 22/06/2012 19:23

Easton! Stupid thing, euston.

OP posts:
Ohyoubadbadkitten · 22/06/2012 19:25

Just looked up what the issue is.
here
You poor soul. I hope you've found a solution.

MooncupGoddess · 22/06/2012 19:27

Thanks OYBBK, how nice of you! After two and a half hours we are maybe 20 miles south of Edinburgh, but the train is now about to inch cautiously over the flooded section so I'm hoping (perhaps over-optimistically) to be home soon after midnight.

How's the forecast looking over the next week?

Helenagrace · 22/06/2012 20:16

Hope you get home ok mooncup. The sleeper takes the west coast line iirc and goes via Glasgow. We caught the sleeper from Preston to Inverness last year. I had romantic notions of travel a la 1940s but DD was travel sick. All night.

AThingInYourLife · 22/06/2012 20:21

I'm in Northern Ireland, it's been raining here since Wednesday night.

Is it the same weather front?

When will it stop?!

Ponders · 22/06/2012 20:25

my daughter (teacher) is supervising a DofE expedition in E Lancs tonight. Rain was torrential all afternoon, & they had to be mini-bussed for the last bit, but remained cheerful last I heard.

Finishing early tomorrow though - their parents will be relieved!

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 22/06/2012 21:23

Still looking unsettled mooncup :( however, we might sneak in a pleasant couple of days at the beginning of the week.

OP posts:
Ohyoubadbadkitten · 22/06/2012 21:24

Athing. It is. You should get a bit of a break hopefully from Sunday afternoonish I think.

It had been awful here since Wednesday evening, east manchester. we are supposed to be attending a big outdoor party tomorrow afternoon Sad and the torch is coming through on Sunday and we really want to go and see it.

I know a few hours ago the local river, Tame, was about a half inch off record levels! It's actually stopped raining for now but it's still unsettled an very grey and heavy looking.SadAngry

iseenodust · 22/06/2012 21:28

OYBBK We're supposed to be on an outing to Spurn Point tomorrow. Will we be blown/washed into the North Sea ?
