that low pressure I've been talking about finally arrives on our shores this afternoon. The met office have issued warnings for the SW and Wales where unfortunately once again very heavy rain could lead to significant flooding potential. However I dont think anywhere will escape the heavy rain over the next couple of days and unfortunately it is possible I think that parts of the NW and also perhaps southern coastal counties will also end up with warnings.

Dont forget to check the environment agency if you live in a flood prone area.

Thanks. Grin

huggly, I could watch that for hours. Quite soothing really apart from the fact that it is a scary swirple-y big 'wodge' now.

VickityBoo · 14/06/2012 23:01

Any idea what it's supposed to be like in east anglia? Can't seem to find anything solid about it. Thanking you.

hellymelly · 14/06/2012 23:02

please don't tell me that we in West wales will get even more gales, we lost our lovely ancient damson tree this week, and my nesting wood pigeon was very damp and bedraggled but the chicks seem to be still alive judging by the amount of poo just outside my back door (their nesting site of choice every bloomin' year)

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 15/06/2012 07:18

Vickityboo - sunshine and heavy showers but strong gusts, particularly tomorrow when they could cause tree damage.

How's the situation developing, OYBBK? I've read various alarmist warnings in the papers but am in Devon today and so far it's just a bit breezy and drizzly.

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 15/06/2012 13:54

Not had chance to look yet, but I see that torro have issued a tornado watch.

Well it's not over yet, but the main rain focus does seem to be for Wales, nw England. More your turn tomorrow again I think.

It is really heavy rain here now. Not too windy though, just a bit gusty. The rain hasn't let up all day.

UnderwaterBasketWeaving · 15/06/2012 16:01

Bit of a breeze & sunshine in Devon.

And I was hoping for apocalyptic lightning during the exam this arvo.

Rain tomorrow, you reckon?

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 15/06/2012 17:04

yep underwater.

Thank you for replying to me I did see it this morning and appreciate it. Made me feel better venturing out to know it wasn't going to be horrendous here today.

I think we should develop our own weather lexicon. Grin I like "swirple" - that's a good description for a weather system like that - kinda swirly and kinda purple/angry.

The MetOffice pages are good, and I sometimes understand the surface pressure charts, but the rainfall and cloud images don't cover a large enough area for me to be able to get some idea of what's creeping up on us and how fast it's moving. That Norwegian site is good for showing the cloud systems developing, especially from the west over the Atlantic. And sometimes it is just fascinating to watch what nature is getting up to.

Would I be right in thinking that the current position of the jet stream has something to do with current and recent weather here?

mumat39 · 15/06/2012 22:13

Hi huggly. Love your name by the way :)

Swirple-y is my 4 year old DD's word for swirly. It's such a good word.

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 15/06/2012 22:14

It very much does hugely, it ought to be rather further north.

Ooo 'swirple' ~ I like that one too
