Hi all,

As part of dh's "re-location" plan, ds1, ds2 and I are coming down to London later today for a fortnight. I've been looking at metcheck.com and they are prediciting a very cold two weeks, especially the week after next. Does anyone know of any other reliable sites I can check and if this is likely to be the case?

Coming from "up North" we have all the appropriate cold weather gear but I don't want to cart it all down with us if it's not needed, space in the car is at a premium! Also don't want to (and can't afford to) buy additional clothing if it is needed when we get there, especially when we already have it here.

Was planning on doing parks, museums, walks along the Thames, basically outdoors, free, stuff but don't want the boys shivering.

Any advice gratefully received!

Bring some jumpers etc. think layers, not artic conditions. It tends to feel coldest near the river if it's cold. I find fleeces wash and dry quickly and give plenty of warmth.

I can't think of any that go to two weeks ahead but yes, the second week does look cold! Temps in single figures. Light winds though, and rather desperately there is still no rain showing.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I was thinking light layers and a mix of jeans and lined trousers in case it gets really chilly. Ds1 will want to wear his Converse constantly but I think I'll make him take his hiking boots but leave the fleece lined snow boots behind.

Just have to decide on coats now!?!

Sounds like a sensible mix. For coats I'd think of wind cheater properties as even with quite light winds the wind can funnel round buildings.

Converse are fine. He needs to wear the most comfortable, sensible shoes he has as you will be doing loads of walking!

Grr at cold weather! I've just planted some of my seeds out!

Converse would be fine if he would look where he was going! I know it's very dry down there but he'll find the tiniest bit of water/mud/dogs' dirt and standing in it!

They both have light ski jacket type jackets which I'll take. They should keep the wind out and can be worn with our without a fleece.

Just have to get it all in the car now!

Yes the pain in London is the hot cold hot cold. Hot on the tube, cold on the street, hot in the shops, cold outside etc etc so make sure you have a bag to carry coats or can wrap them round your waist.
