My thoughts are with anyone with relatives in the path of Yasi. It looks truely bad :(

I currently have abc on listening to residents talk about their preps.

This website shows a comparison of Yasi -v- Australia/US/UK: joannenova.com.au/2011/02/yasi-2011-cyclonic-force-of-nature/#more-13071

I think it's La Nina that's involved in the severe weather in Australia and the US?

MackerelOfFact · 02/02/2011 16:11

Truly terrifying. My thoughts go out to everyone barricaded inside while the storm batters their homes. Hope the casualties are minimal and the fatalities non-existant. :(

Hope everyone and their friends and family are ok. Am waiting to hear from my friend in Cairns.

hugggly, you are correct about La Nina being a strong cause, the sea temps are abnormally warm.

Down to a Cat 3 now, which is still a moderate-strong cyclone.

Miraculously there seem to be no reports of deaths. :) Thank goodness the worst of it went south of Cairns.

That's fantastic news. I held my breath and I turned on the TV this morning, expecting reports of devestation, but was so relieved that it was nowhere near as bad as they expected.

It is very important to listen to the radio and watch the Tv to get in touch with the updates about the Cyclone Yuri. We should be prepared to protect out kids and family. Cyclone Yasi, a Category Four, is heading for Queensland, the state of Australia which makes up the Northeast corner of the continent. Yasi is a tropical storm heading for the already battered state of Queensland, which recently encountered some of the worst flooding on file. A Category Four storm is an intensely powerful phenomenon, with winds in excess of 150 miles per hour. The storm due to hit Australia is the very same dimensions and drive of Hurricane Katrina.
