Winter car kit - what do you carry?

I've ordered Autosocks, have flask, blankets, first aid kit. Need decent torch and small shovel, so will hunt those down. What else do you keep in a winter/snow emergency kit?

That's why I'd always say stick with a bucket. Besides, a bucket has about a hundred other uses besides a nappy. Can even be a shovel if you've got an extra pair of hands on board.

C'mon, Brits were once very resourceful! It's still there, inside us all! This place wouldn't be what it is without it.

A bucket is cheaper and more multi-functional than a nappy.

Put your kit in the bucket. Voila - gear holder AND makeshift potty.

If you're as skint as I am these days, hit a charity shop for anything woolen - jumpers, blankets, even pick up an old duvet and put it in a bag for life.

Take something for a pillow, too.

Ever had to sleep all night without any sort of pillow?

It sucks. Even worse than being uncomfortable in the car.

Take an empty pillowcase in your gear and one of those blow up pillows. Or an old jumper.

ramble, i managed ok with one nappy, but to be fair i have reasonable bladder control, so managed to 'partially empty' Grin

The only thing i would say from personal experience is, good as these lists are, my car isnt that big, so i only have limited boot space. If i only have a small amount of stuff there is less chance of me taking it out because i cant fit weekly shopping in?

Woman across from me wee'd into a couple of carrier bags. Thought she was being uber discreet, until she got out and emptied it onto the hard shoulder, and created a cloud of steam the size of a small county. Grin

right, bucket it is, with puppy pads inside, for err leakage. I am going to do this today, because according to our weather we are in for some rough weather towards the end of this week!

You could stash most of it under the seats? Am trying to pack for Christmas, and pondering how to fit it all in the car.

supposedly, weighing down the boot helps with driving on snow Xmas Hmm

i worked in switzerland years ago,the family i worked for had duvets in those suction bags which make the large duvets into very small flat and waterproof packages!

think you can get them from hardware stores, you hoover the air out somehow!

I'd carry some tea lights and matches as I've been told that one or 2 tea lights lit in the car can warm it up considerably. Obviously to be used with great care, nowhere near petrol tank ( I envisage opening up the glove compartment and burning one carefully on the shelf that the open flap makes) and may not mix with young children!!

and
"But surely ... what happened last week couldn't happen again, could it??"
Oh yes it could "Was wondering"!!
