freezing receipe containing chicken stock

Hi

I just made a receipe for my baby using chicken stock cubes - is it ok to freeze it for re-heating later? Bit nervous about the re-heating chicken issue.

Thanks

Stock cubes contain too much salt and shouldn't be used for baby food.

Make your own chicken stock next time you have a roast chicken - just put all the bones in a big pan of water with an onion, carrot and bay leaf and simmer for a couple of hours. Strain off the bones and you can freeze that. Makes lovely soup and can be used for other recipes that need chicken stock.

Hi

We tend not to eat much meat as husband is veggie, so unlikely to be roasting chicken. I used salt-free organic stock for babies as an alternative.

Oh, sounds good - what make are those stock cubes, wouldn't mind some in the house myself especially for beef or lamb.

These are Boots own brand 'baby organic', available in beef, chicken and vegetable. Just inspected the contents - not totally salt free at 0.03g sodium per 100g of made-up stock. Heinz also do some with slightly higher salt content. A wholefood store might be worth a try.

Good luck!

By the way, the recipie was an Annabel Karmel 'lovely lentils'. Easy for a non-chef like me and smelled great. Baby has yet to try it though!

don't worry mine now eats everything we eat and that includes small amounts of salt too we just mash what we eat for her and it is going well (9 months) including stock
