23 week old...milk intake low, should I stop the solids completely?

Hi - have posted this in bottle feeding too, hoping someone can help me.

DS2 is 23 weeks. I have just weaned him from the breast onto the bottle. I am really worried about how little milk he is drinking. On most days he has 5 bottles (maybe 6), but each time it is a struggle to get more than 4 ozs into him. So he is getting 20-24oz into him on an average day. Is this enough?

He is a very contented baby during the day, doing all the things a baby his age should do - rolling over/ very alert etc.

However during the night, he has started waking every 2 hours, wont take milk, just needs help resettling. I started some solids thinking that would help, it hasnt. Do I stop the solids and concentrate on milk feeds? Or do I accept that I am only now paraniod because I can see how much milk is being drunk. This is why bfeeding is such a joy, no obsessing over fl. oz intake!

Meant to say, have only started a little solids, not much.

DS1 didnt do any of this!

yes stop solids, concentrate on milk which is has far more calories and nutritional value than mashed carrot/pear whatever.

If you want to continue solids, offer after milk.

How much does he weigh? One of mine was taking around 24 oz at 6 mnths, if he won't take milk at night he's probably not hungry. Does he struggle to feed from the bottle or is he quite happy? I would always offer solids after milk when weaning anyway, I know its not how people recommend it but I find it much easier and they've always dropped the milk themselves just more slowly than other babies.
PS Try posting in sleep about the waking every 2 hours, maybe he's teething or about to reach a new milestone.

Hi - Thanks for your replies.
I am offering the solids after the milk - always have done. I know that milk is still far more important. But I have found that I am able to get more milk into him when giving baby rice mixed with milk, so thought that was better than no more at all.

He weighs about 15lbs/ 7kg, weighed 6lbs 8oz when born, so still nicely following his growth curve.

DH has just looked at me with a raised eyebrow and asked why I am worrying. He has just reminded me that a few months ago, I mentioned how DS2 only ever took one breast each feed, never the second. Whereas DS1 would guzzle both. He simply thinks that DS2 doesnt want as much milk - and that when I was bfeeding, I never gave it another thought.
