I am starting weaning my DS at 6 mts at beginning of July. 3 weeks later we are off on holiday. I cant take puree cubes as will thaw on journey, cant face BLW in posh holiday accommodation with in laws and dont want to give him a taste for jars. Any suggestions?- dont know if he will be up for lumps by then.

Wean machine?

You could just not give him food while on hols/delay weaning? It's not like he needs it at that age. Milk is the primary source of nutrition still.

Fruit, bread, plain veggies, and potatos won't be too messy and are perfect finger foods

Just to say we found the Ella's Kitchen and Plum pouches great when we were on holiday soon after starting weaning with DD. They are actually like real food, and DD never had an issue with moving back to home-made stuff. When she was in hospital a few months later and the only baby food they had were jars, we tried it, and she flatly refused to eat it. We had to bring in our own stuff!

We did BLW on holiday when DS was 6 months and found it fantastic - much easier than purees.
Did food as CMOTdibbler above suggests. Boots do disposable plastic mats if you're concerned about the floor.
Just went away again with DS now aged 9 months and again BLW huge success. Hotel staff couldn't have been more helpful (in 2 different hotels) and all enjoyed the fact that he could eat what we were having. It also made it a lot easier for everyone to cater for him.
I would suggest using a double bib approach - one with sleeves and then a plastic pelican bib.

I started weaning on holiday and found posh hotel accomadation ideal for BLW. Good selection of fruit esp. at breakfast, highchairs you can use and someone else to clear up the mess!

I also used pouches and found they were fine - the Ella's kitchen ones are all natural ingredients and easy to carry.

We went on holiday with DD at exactly the same stage as you're going. We took some cereal which you just add water to for breakfast (I think it was from the Boots organics range), an Ella's pouch for lunch and mashed banana/avocado/peach/melon for tea. When we came back, she went back onto homemade puree without a fuss. We also waited to introduce protein until we were back. If you're self catering, stick blenders don't take up much space at all and will increase your repetoire; otherwise take some washing up liquid so you can wash spoons, bowls etc.
