Can a baby overeat?

My 7 month old is really starting to get the hang of solids..albeit he will only eat Ella's Kitchen or Plum range. My question is- can a baby this age overeat? Today he ate more than he has ever done in a day, and I thought he was doing really well. I've just given him his bedtime breastfeed though and he has thrown up in spectacular fashion. He seems perfectly well otherwise, so I think he is too full.
I thought babies stopped eating when full...but today he just kept on opening his mouth for more. Should I limit what I give him? If so, how on earth do you know how much to give?

Not wishing to sound at all patronising but. . . Its important to remember that it is milk that gives them the best source of nutrients up untill the age of one. This in mind it would be worth while considering at what times and in what order you offer milk and solids.

Also bear in mind that his stomach is only as big as his fist.
Don't offer solids when you know he's really hungry. Take the edge of it with the milk feed an hour or less before the solids are offered.

I did baby led weaning with my second DC and it was interesting to let her control how much went in her mouth. I think if you have an eager child who's happy to sit and be fed they could well eat more than they should.
There is only one baby led weaning book and its by Gill Rapley. Well worth a read.
