Toddler - behind weaning and now being fussy

I have a 19 month old. He's struggled with health and 2 months ago taken off all dairy produce which had stopped constant vomiting.

So he's behind with weaning. He can do finger stuff and use a spoon but gags and chokes alot.

Now he is being fussy with food. He generally has breakfast of porridge with his subsitute milk.

I have stopped mid-morning snack but he has it at daycare ( I work 2 or 3 days a week). Today he didn't want it. He tried lunch of veggie crumle but rejected it. Sucked the juice out of the oranges and left the skins.

For dinner this evening I made mince with rice and veggies hidden in it and some potato wedges. Refused.

He ate a banana.

And it's like this most days. He will eat bananas. He will eat fish. He might do a jam sandwich if really hungry.

I miss doing cheesy sauces which he loves but can't now have.

Is it a phase? Will it pass? Got to keep calm and patient right?

Would you give alternatives? He's just had a tantrum cos' I gave his older brother a slice of cake who had eaten his dinner nicely. I didn't give him any. Is that fair?

I would hide the cake consumption from him this is what we do with my 2yo he can't understand why the others get biscuits (because they at a full tea) and he didn't. They don't really understand 'Eat your tea and you get a pudding' until nearly 3yo, ime.

His diet doesn't sound that terrible, just keep offering what he does eat along with other healthy stuff; his natural curiousity will motivate him to try new stuff eventually.

Your lucky, really, my 2yo won't touch fresh fruit!
