Snacks for 6.5 month DS

DS2 won't take milk from the CM - I've tried ebm, formula, ebm in a sippy cup etc.
Spoken to the HV and as long as he's having enough at other times (which he is) and is taking water with his food (which he is) then it's fine.
Still get plenty of wet nappies so I'm not worried. DS2 hasn't read the 'food for fun until you're one' book and is a solids monster!

So, I want to now give him something at the 10:30 and 2:30 feed times as a snack. He has milk based breakfast, lunch and dinner (both with pudding, of which one is a yoghurt) already.

What things can I give him for snack without always having to resort to more fruit or another yoghurt?
Things I can provide for the CM to give him would be brilliant, although that's only 3 days a week so I can do other stuff at home.

Thanks

Rice cakes!
Bread with butter. banana (but messy), apple sticks (but slight choking risk so mustn't mustn't be left onhis own, and only works if he has some teeth by now).

breadsticks
baby crisps (my DS loves organix carott sticks) or rice cakes
dried fruit - raisins, apricots
sticks of cucumber
baked pitta crisps
biscuits - organix and heinz do baby biscuit type things, but finger shaped rich tea are the same but cheaper

My DS has morning and afternoon snacks, and usually one is slices of or dried fruit

Hope that helps!

Thanks, that's really helpful. Hadn't thought of the rich tea fingers!

What are baked pitta crisps?
Do I have to wait until he has teeth before I can give raisins and apricots etc.? He has lumpy food already.

I make savoury mini muffins in batches. They freeze really well and defrost in seconds in the micro, or overnight in the fridge, or within a couple of hours in a snackpot. Things like spinach & cheese, pumpkin & parmesan etc.

Also can make sweet ones e.g. apple & cinnamon

I also have a batch of cakes known as wakey-cakes. I got the recipe from the Baby Led Weaning website. It's basically weetabix and other cereals crushed up with a tin of prunes and a mashed banana and some yoghurt. Then baked (again in mini muffin tins). DS loves these as a snack, they're really moist and moreish.

He also loves all the Organix crisps too.

Rice cakes with cream cheese and a lick of pesto for flavour

TBH DS often has for lunch a little bit of whatever we had for dinner the previous evening

Am liking the sound of the mini muffins, will have to look out some recipes. Also like the sound of the wakey-cakes - any idea where the recipe for that is?

Am slowly getting to the point where I'm happy to give him our food as he's now happy with lumps and lots of different flavours. Am glad as that's just so much easier!

oh yes recipes for the mini muffins and wakey cakes please.

sound great

Lionstar · 20/05/2010 22:35

Here's the wakey-cake. If you read the full thread there are several variants, I do the one with the prunes as it comes out really moist, and I use Greek yoghurt instead of milk.

Most of my muffin recipes also came from that site, like this one. They are easily adaptable to whatever veg you actually have.

And I can't believe I forgot to mention the Veggie Nuggets. Fabulous for using up random frozen veg and my kiddies always LOVE them. Again I make them in the mini muffin tins - makes a perfect baby fist sized snack.
