What bib for BLW?

I'm trying out different styles of bibs to find out which is best for ds, who's just starting weaning.

Which ones did you like? Some of them are so expensive that I don't want to buy a useless one.

Nakedness in a big empty room with newspaper on the floor!

I bought couple of longsleeved fa bric (plastic backed)ones from tesco and they have done the trick.

We've got a couple of long sleeved ones too. Shame they don't stop DS getting food in his hair

I've got the ones from Tesco, which are alright, but the Ikea ones are smaller, don't stain and dry very quickly.

I also have friends who recommend the neoprene ones (with and without arms) as they are very easy to wipe clean, but also machine washable and don't stain. They're not very expensive, the only reason I haven't bought any are because I have enough.

I also have a couple from Matalan, but the velcro is rubbish and I now have to fasten with a clothes peg!

I'd definitely recommend one with sleeves. And a large shower curtain for the floor...

dustycups · 15/05/2010 22:55

the ones with the crumb catcher on r good as they tend to drop alot but then they can scoop it back out again!

StrikeUpTheBand · 15/05/2010 22:58

These were excellent when doing BLW with DS, so I plan on using them again with DD .

BertieBotts · 15/05/2010 23:02

I like the ones which are a big rectangle with a hole cut out.

DS never got on with the crumb catcher ones and thought it was fun to pull off the velcro ones

But when he was still small enough to bath in the kitchen sink, I just used to strip him down!

OrganicHairbrush · 16/05/2010 15:26

Following this thread with interest. All the ones we've tried have been too big, so am currently doing the "nakedness in a big empty room with newspaper on the floor" technique, followed by a bath!

BertieBotts · 16/05/2010 19:30

Oh yes they tend to be quite big when you first start - at that age if I used a bib I just bought the multipacks of 0-6 month size ones. I did once buy a pack of 6 month + "weaning bibs" from boots but once washed they shrunk to exactly the same size as the newborn ones!

Sunlight BTW is an excellent stain remover and works on most food stains except banana.

OrganicHairbrush · 16/05/2010 20:33

Ah will try and shrink some ... thanks!

DD is still in 0-3 month clothes and they're don't seem to be all-over type ones that runty small

MarionCole · 16/05/2010 20:34

Nekkid (but for a nappy)

chaya5738 · 16/05/2010 20:56

Baby Bjorn. Expensive but it will be all you need. Our DD can pick food out of it if she drops it and it is super easy to clean. Can't recommend it highly enough.

BertieBotts · 16/05/2010 22:09

OK, well they shrunk at 40, so shouldn't be that hard. These were just normal ones though not the all-over ones, which I think are made from different material?

I found that a normal bib which covered the chest, and short or rolled up sleeves on DS' clothes covered enough - they very rarely get food on their shoulders, and I have a picture of him with food everywhere else! Am trying to put it on profile if it stops timing out.

Failing that just buy a couple of very cheap tops from a supermarket or charity shop (or use old stained ones) as an all over bib. You could cut up the back for easier access.

FuckingNinkyNonk · 16/05/2010 22:13

I never did bibs. Dunno why, just never did. Seem to have clean eaters. Not sure if I did, but I don't worry about clothes in general.

cara2244 · 25/05/2010 20:34

John Lewis long sleeved bibs with a clothes peg to make them tighter round the neck.

PartialToACupOfMilo · 28/05/2010 20:35

For breakfast we just get dressed afterwards and use her pyjamas as a bib. Also have highchair parked right next to the washing machine and just chuck stuff straight in when I need to.

Lunchtime/evening we strip down to a vest (roll up sleeves if long) and use a 0-6 months bib - she's 6 months old now and quite small.

That seems to do it for us

moosemama · 28/05/2010 21:12

We have two long sleeved bibetta bibs and 1 without sleeves.

Dd is now 16 months and we started blw at 6 months.

We haven't needed to buy any other bibs for her, as the bibetta ones are neoprene, so you can just give them a quick scrub after each feed and they are clean and dry for the next feed. They also wash and tumble dry well and are also quite big, althouhg my dd is quite small, (currently wearing 6-9 months clothes) so they completely covered her right down to her feet for quite a long time.
