Help, 8mo DS has decided he wants to do BLW

DS was weaned early at 4.5 mo because of reflux. He's always loved his food and we started finger foods a few weeks ago.

Now he's decided puree and mushed food is for loosers. Oh and spoons are too uncool for babies.

So I've been giving him meals straight onto the tray of his high chair, he eats very slowly with his hands but at least it's going in.

My problem is ideas for foods. He's still very little and picking things up is hard.

I liked the idea of BLW but since I was weaning early I didn't think of it.

Can someone give me ideas for meals?

So far he's eating, rice with tiny chopped soft veg. Small pasta shapes, but these have to be dry so he can pick them up. Toast of tiny bits of bread.

Just to be difficult, we're also veggie

how old is he?

rice cakes loaded with anything and everything.

the blw thread has ideas too.

roasted veggies.

anything finger size - your finger size, not his so they can hold it and mush it themselves. they get quite good at it with enough practice!

DD loves avocado cut in slices, pita bread with anything (hummus, soft cheese...), steam vegetable, pasta with tomato sauce (I make my own and blend it so it gets thicker), rice fritters with anything, vegetable fingers, savoury muffins (good recipes on "Recipe Section". I make one with mozzarella and courgettes that DD loves), vegetables with couscous, cheese cut in sticks, lentils croquettes, cherry tomatoes cut in half, olives cut in half, melons, strawberries, garlic mushrooms...

The important thing is that they need to be the perfect size for them to handle them. As they grow older they can start eating smaller things. There are plenty of things they can eat, it just depends on how your diet is. I am veggie, DD isn't (daddy didn't agree with it) but she eats very little fish (twice a week) and meat (three times a week) but she eats plenty of pulses, vegetables, dairy and fruit so she has a balance diet. Just thing on food you could eat with your hands and I am sure you will realise that there are plenty of dishes you can cook for your son and yourselves (just avoid any salt).

I bought a book "Weaning and First Foods" by Nicola Graimes that have plenty of finger food recipes and very few of purees recipe which I love. DD loves anything I have cooked from this book and also DP and me.

The key point is if he has a pincer grip or not. If not foods need to be big so he can eat half and use half as a handle. That means the smaller bits left can't be managed! Once he has a pincer grip he can anyhting you eat.
