Just started weaning and DS is already much less interested in boobs! Is this OK??

Or maybe it's just continuing distractibility? We've just started weaning (combining puree and BLW) and he's eating LOADS but I'm a bit worried that bfs are becoming v quick - he definitely doesn't seem as hungry for milk, which makes sense I suppose.

BUT surely he still really needs the milk, as he's having nowhere near a 'balanced diet' on solids?

I feel as if I'm force-feeding him breastmilk as I have to keep re-latching him on to get him to drink more. Should I just trust him to take what he needs?

Hi Fiona, it was in this book I think - mainly about going back to work iirc. The babies just start to want to feed at night if you are away all day, I think that was the gist of things. Your DS might be very efficient? Just doing his thing? As long as he is weeing and pooing and is happy and healthy, I wouldn't worry. I have recently started feeding DS straight after naps, or after an activity that makes him hungry, eg swimming. It seems to have settled down a bit these past few days. He too was having so many feeds, but since he has started eating solids, we have changed the pattern of feeds iyswim. Totally confusing for ages!

RubyBuckleberry · 08/05/2010 20:47

we have changed it so it is now:

7, 1000, 1, 4, 7, 10pm, 3am

{timings approximate)

I cannot control how long he is on for though. It varys from a few minutes to 20minutes (double boob full feed) at night! I think he takes a big proportion of his milk at night!?

RubyBuckleberry - this sounds very similar to us in terms of timings, and with the feeds being better at nights.

In my saner moments I do think that as long as he is weeing and pooing ok (which he is) then its all ok, but then the neurotic side of my brain takes over!

Fiona - my DS is 26 weeks and probably has been reducing the amount at his feeds for the last 2 or 3 weeks. I started solids around 22 weeks and by 24 weeks we were on 3 meals a day. He has taken to his food really well hence why I've moved forward with it quite quickly.

the main feeds for us seem to be early morning, around 2pm, bedtime and then a dream feed still. HV has said to try and drop the dream feed, but am not sure. Maybe it might help him take more in the daytime though? I am now giving more dairy stuff in his food.

DS is also very inquisitive and would much rather be watching what's going on than staring at my boob feeding! Interestingly he takes more milk in the day with the CM as that's emb in a bottle and so he can drink and watch what's going on.
