Cow's milk - how much is too much?

My 18 mo DS has just been totally weaned from breast after spending last 6 months having it morning evening and weekends. He has always been a labour intensive breastfeeding baby - wanting bm frequently - even when he was well established on solids.

He now has FF cow's milk in a bottle and is drinking around a litre a day. I think this is too much. He has plenty of food and always gets given more food and water on request (healthy stuff with a bit of crap for variation!). He is not that heavy and totally in proportion - in fact quite skinny albeit with a fat tum.

WDYT? Should I be more active in getting him to replace milk with solids or should I chill?

12-20oz is recommended from 1 year so I wouldnt give much more than that as it can impact on eating 'proper' food. Could you try offering some in a cup as that should help him cut down some of the volume? That is one of the reasons bottles are discouraged after 1 year - partly for teeth and partly for discouraging large volumes of milk.

Thanks Seona. Feel rather guilty now - not least because I had to look up Fl Oz as have no idea what they are in new money.

I've been away a week and his dad has been putting a bottle in his mouth every time he asks for mummy - turned him into a milkaholic. He's had nowt today and we are now on a strict regime of milk only before nap and bedtime plus open cup.
