My DS is 7.5mo and I've been BLW since 6 months. Recently he has started eating more and more food, not just playing with it. However, he just doesn't seem arsed about vegetables or fruit. The first time he has them he seems to like them, but after then he just ignores them or gives them a bit of a bite and just discards them. The food he seems to really enjoy is all bready like pitta or ryvita, but there are only so many things you can put on bread and I don't like to give him too much.
He's also loves cheese, but again, I don't feed him too much because bread and cheese is hardly a healthy diet.
He's tried most of the fruit and veg I can think of and the only one he seems to like consistently is pineapple.
Should I just give up with the sticks of vegetables and find alternate ways of getting veggies in him or persevere?

DS was like this, after blwing dd and having her eat all food groups happily it came as a shock.

I thought it was a phase and his body just needed more carbs at that point in time but he still doesnt really eat much veg to my disapointment.

I think it mostly a texture thing so he will eat banana and corn on the cob but not strawberries/melons etc.

I would be a little sneaky to try and get him used to veg flavours, may mash swede into mash potatoes etc.

Not even bananas or avocadoes?
I sneak greens into DD's mash- broccoli etc.
You could also try mixing berries into yoghurt.

MrsChemist · 17/04/2010 20:51

Nope. He liked bananas initially, but went right off them a few weeks into BLW.
He really likes garlic so I'm thinking I could maybe hide vegetables behind the garlic taste IYSWIM.
I'll try the berries in yoghurt thing as well.

I'm just going to have to resign myself to hiding veggies in his food aren't I?

Sounds like almost the opposite of my ds who loathes anything breadlike and will hardly eat any carbs but will gobble fruit all day if I let him!

I would keep perserving from time to time as their likes do seem to change a lot and your ds is still very young (my ds is now 1yo, also blw and didn't actually eat anything til about 10mo so I reckon you're doing really well!). Also don't know how you're cooking the veg but maybe try cooking it in different ways e.g. the only way ds will eat parsnip is roasted and he loves courgette sauteed lightly in butter.

One thing you could try which ds loves is some of the ella's kitchen fruit/veg mixes in pouches - they're the only bought things i've resorted to and are just fruit/veg nothing else but have a clever combination which seems to go down a treat.

There's a lovely recipe for pancakes on here, including a grated apple. My ds loves them.

Also use those fruit pouches a lot - spread on a rice cake is his favourite snack.

I did see the fruit pouches and thought about getting them, but I'm always a bit mistrustful of things pre made.
I'll check them out though. Thanks
