Dairy Intollerence - whats the weaning rules?

This is my third thread tonight

4 tons of washing to do but hey!

So after an ellimination diet it seems that DD is infact intollerent to cows milk and Soya (damn damn damn).

Have only been back on dairy since Thursday so this is day 5 but she is becoming harder to feed (has reflux too), grumpy again and windy.

Im not sure if this is a definite but Im now thinking about weaning next month and what do I do?

Do I just mix her food with my BM and what about lack of dairy in her diet?

My DS staple was everything in a cheese sauce and natural yogurt when all else failed! I can't imagine a baby on a dairy free diet getting enough especially when im on dairy free too.

When do I try her on dairy? I just don't know how to go about this.

Have you spoken to a doctor about this? My DD now 5 has been allergic to Dairy since we found out when weaning. We were referred by the doctor to a Nutritionist and Paediatrician. We tried the following products (however if your DD is allergic to Soya I dont know how she will get on.
Wysoy
SMA LF
Nutramigen
Pregestimil
Although I think you can only get the first two over the counter. The other two we got on prescription from the doctor. I weaned DD on formula milk/ breast milk and baby rice with various fruit and veg flavours added ( pureed stewed apple/ plum/ carrot/ fresh banana etc.)

You can get a brand of cheese in the health shop called cheesy but it doesnt melt well and DD hated it but it might be worth trying!

Try the website:- www.dietryneedsdirect.co.uk

Hope that helps Good luck x

Ooh and we try our DD on Dairy every 6 months with a little bit of cooked cheese in her food.

She finally tolerated it a couple of months ago and has tried her first chocolate bar at Easter. So far so good!

DD is cow's milk allergic so this means a dairy free diet for us. We have been referred to the paediatric dietitian and have had her allergy confirmed by a paediatric allergy specialist at the local hospital.

We have weaned using home prepared stuff including fruit compotes, vegetables and mixed protein (fish or meat)/veg/starch combinations. You can mix in olive oil to savoury dishes, add avocado to vegetables, and can buy a dairy free margarine called 'Pure' which she could have on toast.

DD will eat a wide variety of things, our problem is getting her to manage lumpier foods and finger foods. It is a worry but I am sure she will get there.

We were prescribed Nutramigen formula for her, it tastes absolutely revolting but she has not reacted to it and it is nutritionally complete. Yes you can get Wysoy (by SMA ) in Boots, another hypoallergenic formula is Neocate which I believe tastes a bit nicer than Nutramigen but again I think is prescription only.

I would suggest you go to your GP and get a referral the allergy properly tested and they will be able to give you advice from there.

Good luck
