Started weaning my 7 month old baby at 6 months and now he eats 3 good meals per day with fruity and/or yoghurty pudding at lunch and tea, finishes everything and has lost interest in milk..except in the middle of the night when he wakes at 2,4 and 6 am and won't go back to sleep unless I breastfeed him.In the day he is happy with formula and water but even so only drinks about 2oz of formula with his breakfast(which is porridge mixed with formula and a bit of fruit puree) and he'll drink another 4-5 oz of formula at 4.30/5.He drinks cool boiled water from his bottle with his lunch.I offer him formula before bedtime at about 8 but he only ever has about 1-2 oz.Then wakes 2-3 times per night for a breast feed!I don't mind the 6am feed but surely he doesn't really need the other 2 feeds? I'm starting work in 2 weeks time and need to sort this out.I'm going to ask the health visitor but wondered what others think? Oh, and he is still in our room..he has recently been unwell with 2 consecutive infections needing antibiotics so didn't want to move him, and now I'm getting up 3x per night it just seems easier to keep him next to our bed..but I know this needs to change.Any advice greatly appreciated..

You have my sympathy. my dd2 was just like this at 7 months and it is knackering. She was in our room due to building work and refusing to take any formula. I was also going back to work so wanted to wean off the breast feed during the day.
My health visitor recomended increasing the colories in her food eg adding butter, cream etc, she had also not put on much weight.I had been mainly baby lead weaning to that point, but started adding in mashed food from a spoon or spread on toast fingers. She didnt eat much of the toast but sucked all the mash off.
We also were able to get her into her own room. But the main thing was just gritting my teath and spending the time to settle her without feeding. It was hard but I found that she didn't wake any sooner than if she had had a feed so I belive that she was not really hungary.
Her sleeping did improved alot although she has a cold/ cough at the moment which is waking her up ( usaly only once a night) and I am finding it easier to feed her back to sleep that spend the time to settle her with out. Might have another go at stpping night feeds a Easter when I'm not at work.

I was there too! I haven't got a magic solution, but DD is 10 months this week and about 3 weeks ago she dropped all but 1 night feed (down from 3 to 4 feeds a night!). It did coincide with in increase in her solid food intake - I started trying to get more calories down her so giving things like grated cheese as snacks, and also we now give porridge about 1/2 hour before bed. She slept through for the first time ever the night before last
I don't for a moment think that that's the sleep issue totally sorted for us, but things are a lot, lot better now. I think partly it is the extra calories, but also I think she was just ready to sleep longer anyway.

you don't mention mealtimes in the day - can you shift these around a bit so tea is earlier and he's then ready for milk before bed? or you say he has formula at 4.30 - can you give him his tea at this time, and drop that bottle for another one at bedtime? - easier said than done tho if he eats at the same time as you do.
