Best blender/mixer/mouli for first foods and sterilisation of equipment.

We have just started to wean our 27 week old baby girl. We have started with baby rice and aptamil porridge and I now want to wizz up some fresh veg purees for her.

I have two questions -

1)Which is the best food mixer/blender/mouli for first foods. I want to produce a nice smooth consistancy. She is not keen on lumpy food yet!

2)What is the deal with sterilising the food preparation equipment (such as pots, pans etc). Do I need to pour boiling water over everything I use?

Thanks!

Hmmm

I used a hand blender to mix up fruit purée and also used Ella's Kitchen pouches as they were very smooth.

As for sterilising - I don't think you need to bother past six months. I didn't anyway.

sterilising? Lord No! Free yourself, don't bother.

I never sterilse any of their food stuff?!

I just have a hand blender thing from Kenwood. It has a blender attachment as well as mixing things for making cakes. (They are for the older ones in the house, not the baby! LOL)

I used a cheap handblender for purees and never sterilised weaning equipment.

I've been using a £4.95 Asda Smartprice hand blender..brilliant for eveything and now also use it for our food like soup and pasta sauces. It was actually free from a Surestart Tasty Treats weaning workshop, health visitors can tell you about these.I just wash everything in the dishwasher.

Thanks guys! Seems a hand blender is the best bet. Glad to hear that I don't need to spend hours boiling all my cooking equipment (thought this was probably the case after 6 months but am a first time mum so full of worries )
