From breast milk to cows milk

DS is coming up to 11 months and I am planning to stop breastfeeding soon. He's down to 2 feeds a day now, morning and night. He is BLWed and eats really well, 3 meals and 2 snacks.

I'm going to go straight on to cows milk from a cup. He has little sips of water from a cup but never has loads so I'm a bit nervous that I'm not going to be able to get him to drink it. Does it need to be warmed up? Do I give him a cup of cows milk when I usually feed him, so first thing, or should we get up and go straight to breakfast? And what about bed time? Drinking from a cup can be a bit messy so not ideal before bed.

Sorry, lots of questions but I'm just a bit confused. I've posted this on the breastfeeding branch as well.

Thanks in advance for any help...

You can give him milk from a bottle or sippy cup, they are less messy. Babies this age still have a sucking reflex when drinking and if he is used to sucking at night time I think it's too early to stop this.

I stopped bfing dd1 when she was 12 months and gave her warmed milk from a sippy cup every night until she was about three years old.

Thanks, but what about in the morning? Did you give cows milk then or just straight to breakfast. When you say sippy cup, do you mean on of those with a lid that are free flowing and have a little spout with a couple of holes in. He drinks water from a doidy cup.

My dd1 used avent sippy cups, they are supposed to be none spill but they do come open if dropped on the floor! So I'm not really recommending them.

It's very normal to still give milk in the mornings as well as breakfast.

We use the tommee tippee ones with a flip up spout as there are carpets everywhere

I see he is having water in a doidy, I'd just switch to milk in the doidy. He's used to that style of cup. if he's having cows milk in food - cereals etc he'll be used to the taste. You don't need to warm it up or anything, just offer it in his usual cup at mealtimes
