DS (20 weeks) was left at the table with DD (4) and was sitting in his Bumbo watching her eat dinner. I left the dining room to go to the loo and when I came downstairs, she had given him a raw carrot and he was sucking on it. I grabbed camera before taking it off him (he went hysterical). Pic is on profile. Should he be allowed to experiment with holding food in prep for BLW in 6 weeks? He's EBF.

this is how my sister intentionally weaned my niece... i did it by the book and waited till the clock struck 26 weeks, but she started giving her dd little pieces of food to suck on at mealtimes (not every day just whenever she showed an interest)and it worked really well...most things just got dropped i think but by the time she was nearer 6 months it wasn't a big deal to wean her as she had already formed the associations. i was secretly judging her at the time but i think it's ok to relax about it a bit, and i wouldn't worry too much if i were you!

DS2 is 21 weeks and took a chip from my plate on Monday and ate it! Whilst it's not the food I would feed him obviously, I've taken it as the sign from him that he's ready. He can sit and take things to his mouth.
I now give him things to eat at mealtimes and if he eats them great, if not it's no big deal. Am sure given a few more weeks he'll get going with it all.
Remember not all babies will be ready at 26 weeks, some will be earlier some will be later.
