BLW- do you really just give them what you are having?

I have realised how little vegetables dh and I eat! But anyway was wondering when you eat dinner to you give them what you are eating exactly as it comes, or do you moidify it?

For example when we had enchiladas, I gave him a tomato (cut up!), some quorn pieces, some veg and a bit of tortilla.

Do you just serve up what you are having- like spagetti or stirfry?

Yes, my dd loved spaghetti from quite young and also noodles. She still does. I found she could handle them better if I broke them up a bit, but not too much. (Messy though, be warned). How old is your ds?

He 6 and half months. He still seems to be at the mostly chucking on the floor stage!

We had to tweak our diet a lot bit when we started blw, to incorporate a lot more fruit and holdable veg. If we were having something salty or unsuitable for a baby we'd just give ds a selection of bits and pieces on his plate, say a few slivers of pear, sticks of cheese, a bit of toast etc

Yes, though I did find I modified my veg chopping to ensure finger sized pieces, and reduced the spices a bit and of course no added salt.

Spaghetti, or indeed any sort of pasta is great and they get lots of the sauce that way. I found fusilli (spirals) the best for sauce retention and easy grip. It is messy though!

I also used to roast up batches of veg - carrots, butternut squash, sweet potato etc and then freeze in baby portion. So if we had a meal without sufficient baby bits I could just defrost one (in the micro if not forethought)

Might not give quorn for a while though; LOADS of people get sick on it, even adults.

Thanks. Well we are vegetarian, so have quorn for nearly every meal. Hmmm, will have to think on that.

I realised we weren't too good on our fruit/veg intake so have upped ours quite a bit since DS started BLW a month ago.

Yes, he does have what we are having, with necessary modifications/substitutions. He has had lasagne (just pull out some noodle, mince/sauce and cheese for him to squish around.

When we have tacos, I make him a quesadilla (fill a folded tortilla and fry on both sides) and cut it into wedges. Stir fry, just chuck appropriate size pieces and some clumps of noodles on his tray.

Hi Roslily,
I was just reading your thread with interest as I am looking in to BLW my dd and I noticed the comment about Quorn by 'Post'.

Quorn makes me feel really unwell, like you might feel when recovering from food poisoning. But it does not make me actually throw up. It gives me no other obvious outward reaction like swelling to show that I am intollerent to it. So unlikly as it is that your little one is intollerent, it would be hard for you to tell.
It has been put down to my digestive system being sensitive.
Don't mean to freak you out though!

Wondering the same thing here! I think it's probably a confidence thing. I've just been and bought a variety of veg for DS2, carrots, mini corn, mange tout and will try him with those.

Lionstar - does the frozen roasted veg still come out well when defrosted? I like the idea of having standby's just in case.

We give our little one omlettes cut into little strips. And fusilli pasta is great. She also loves any sort of roast vege esp. sweet potato.
