Hi

Just after some adive about my DS. He eats very well and drinks water happily. He has a 7oz bottle in the morning but has been refusing his bedtime bottle for the last couple of weeks (doesn't seem to be teething) or only taking an OZ or 2. He has no other bottles during the day. I wouldn't be too worried about this except for the fact that he has started waking up at night for a bottle instead when hew previously slept through. Any ideas why this might be/what I could do?

Is there a big enough time gap between his tea and his last bottle? Just a thought, becasue if he is eating well, he may well just not have the space for a bottle on top of that if they are too close?

He has dinner about 4.45/5ish then a bottle at 6.30-45 - not sure whether that long enough or not.

it does sound like he's too full for his bottle - what does he have for dinner?

also, I know he's only 12mo, but will he drink milk from a cup?

He has quite a lot for all his meals - and snacks in between! He is a big boy and was on 6 9oz bottles a day before I weaned him! His usual day:

6.30 7oz bottle
10.30 water and rice cakes or fruit or rusk
12pm lunch usually cottage pie/ cauli and broc cheese/ fish pie etc followed by yogurt and lots of finger food and fruit.
3pm water and biscuit/rusk/ricecake/fruit etc
4.45-5pm dinner same sort of food as lunch really mild curry/ fish dish/chicken dish etc followed by a fruit pot with lots of veg and fruit as finger food.
6.30-45 bottle (in theory)

If thisw helps, I would only offer fruit & veg for a mid afternoon snack (rather than something like a biscuit) and give him his dinner at 4:30 instead. Try moving the evening bottle 15 mins later.

Umm...I would say that 2 hours is enough time in between solids and milk.

My DS went 'off' milk, or so I thought...he actually went off me giving it to him! I used to lay him in his cot with the milk and let him feed himself.

Also, have you thought about changing his bottle to a beaker? I think my DS got fed up of sucking from a bottle teat when tired. I moved him to the NUK training beaker - it has a soft, silicone free flowing teat. He has his daily water and milk from it.

Hope things start to improve

I was only making a suggestion

addictedtofrazzles · 16/03/2010 12:29

Jareth - I think we are x posts - I took ages to post mine as I was sorting out my toddler! My post wasn't a response to what you wrote

I think your suggestion is great!
