BLW- how do you do sloppy stuff like yoghurt, porridge?

That's it really. Do you spoon feed? Load up a spoon, let them do it with hands?

If I load a spoon for ds he takes it and puts in mouth, but then just wants to chew that for 10mins- this is quite difficult for getting breakfast done before I go to work!

I did a mix of letting them eat with hands, me spooning and using multiple spoons for them - this works quite well as they will go for the loaded spoon and drop the one they are chewing.

Also porridge can be served as 'pancakes' - thick porridge allowed to set in the bottom of a bowl. They can then pick up bits in their fingers. Sounds yuck, but they don't seem to mind

Thanks- I will try that with the porridge!

i tried many ways but in the end i just spoon fed porridge at first - IIRC by about 10 months he was taking over and doing it himself with the most appalling mess is now very proficient with a spoon and eats better with cutlery than his big brother

i felt bizarrely guilty about it at the time! but it was practical and didn't hinder the BLWing in any other way

I use spoons - for some reason, DS loves porridge and yoghurt from a spoon, but will not tolerate any type of puree from one. I did worry that it wasn't 'right', but he loves his petit filous so much it seems mean to not let him have it in the easiest way! Also, I think the 'rules' of BLW are meant to help, not hinder, so as long as it's working, it's fine.

I give dd (7.5months) loaded spoons, and she flings them back at me when there is nothing left on them so I can reload for her. It's messy, but fun

Multiple spoons definitely the way to go... even if dd fancies chewing the empty spoon, she's usually pretty quick to fling it if I wave a full one in front of her

I do spoon feed porridge and yoghurt. I also used to spoon feed mash, rice pudding and pasta, but as they got better at feeding themselves I stopped and just put it on their tray instead. Sometimes, when they are not keen on the spoon I put porridge on their trays too - just make it thick or leave it to stand. If you are getting on well with loaded spoons try a 2 spoon tactic - offer one, then when she is chewing it, offer a second one and swap. You will probably find that the first one hits the floor for mummy to pick up, but thats BLW eh?

I may try the 2 spoon thing. At the moment I do sloppy stuff on a preloaded spoon, and have to wrestle it away from DS (6.5 mo) to reload!
