Hiya everyone

My little boy is 8 months...9 months on 26th march.

This is his day to day feeding:

6.00am = Bottle of milk (8oz)

9.00am = Breakfast (porridge)

12.00pm = Lunch (Tinned baby food and a youghurt for pudding)

3.00pm = Dinner (Jar and a Jar of pudding afterwards)

6.00pm = Bottle of milk (8oz)

7.30pm = Bed time

So in 24 hours he will have about 32oz of milk but there are times when he wont drink all his milk.

I may give him snaks throughout the day like a couple of crisps or a baby biscuit.

Is this ok for my 8 month old son ??

Is he getting enough of everything ??

He doesnt seem hungry he is doing fine on this amount of milk and solids a day but was just wondering if he is getting what he needs.

thankyou for any comments

that's only 16oz of milk, not 32.

but it seems ok to me. only 2 bottles doesn't seem much, i'd expect him to be having more than that, but i guess 16oz isn't too bad

roxy12 · 07/03/2010 20:09

sorry yes he does have about 20oz because he has 4oz to 5oz in his porridge.

Could you maybe offer him milk after/during his lunch and dinner?

Does he eat any fresh fruit? eg mashed banana, that's very easy, quick and good for him.

roxy12 · 07/03/2010 20:21

i havent really tried him on fresh fruit but i will do that actually.

yes i could but the thing is after his porridge in the mornings i offer him milk but he doesnt drink it..he plays with it.
Maybe he is full up ??

Great
apples and pears are really easy too.
Peal and chop them and cook them in a little water in a pan, till soft, then mash them up . Simple!!

He might well be full after his porridge, but maybe offer a small bottle, mid morning. You never know he might fancy it then.

fresh food is better for them than jars/tins if you have time to prepare it.
i realise not everyone does though

roxy12 · 07/03/2010 20:33

Yes that does sound simple enough! i am going to buy some fresh fruit tommorow and see how he gets on with it.

Ok that is a good idea..i will try him with a few oz's mid morning atleast it is a bit of extra milk that he will be getting.

I am going back to work on 22nd march and it is going to be very difficult for me to prepare food but i am going to try my best as i can to do a few different meals for him and put them in the freezer and defrost them in the microwave.

Lovely Use enough water to cover the fruit. Cook on a low heat.

You can do the same with carrots and other veg too.

Another idea if you want to freeze things...
Get any veg you like. Potatos, carrots, parsnips, leeks etc. Put in a dish with a lid (like a casserole dish) and cover with water and cook in the oven. Until all the veg is soft.
You could add some chicken too. I used to put it in raw and let it cook with the veg. It goes nice and soft this way.

Then mash it with a masher or blend it with a hand blender if you have one and freeze in little pots.

Also have you tried him with any other finger foods?

Toast with butter is nice for them to suck on.

Just wanted to mention that my DS' schedule is almost like yours except for the 3pm dinner -- at 3pm my DS gets a breastfeed, then he has dinner at 5.30 pm, then he gets another breastfeed right before bed. So another option for you might be to swap milk/dinner times and just add another milk feed before bed??

Also, speaking of fruit, my DS looooves banana, you could try that as finger food or mash it easily to mix with yogurt etc

He also likes steamed broccoli as finger food, steam it enough to go mushy -- and ripe avocado, easy to eat and v healthy!! hth

My DS is 11mo, and since he was about 8mo he has only been having 2 milk feeds per day. The 2 feeds used to be about 8oz each, but now they have reduced to 5oz each! He just seems totally disinterested in milk.

If I try and offer milk between meals he isn't interested, and reducing his solids doesn't seem to make any difference, so I just try to add as much milk as possible to his food. It doesn't help that he won't eat cheese though! However I mentioned it to the HV and she seemed to think this was ok.

princessmel · 07/03/2010 20:53

I have heard of a lot of babies that lose interest in milk once they are on solids. I suppose you just have to try and get it in wherever you can.

roxy12 · 10/03/2010 14:32

Yes he does have alot of finger foods. he has a bit of toast occasionaly and i give him baby buscuits and baby crisps and he will just hold them and chew on them.

He loves banana.. which i am very pleased about. I also done a roast dinner for me and my partner and i put some aside for him and i blended it all up and it made 3 dinners (which i was happy with) i just froze them and defrosted them when i wanted to give them to him and he loved it.

I am now going to concentrate on getting fruit and veg into him !!
